    420's and 430's

I don't know about the 30's but you should save those 420's for a Mark IV!!

ok thoughts ,tips, anything on the mk III?

Mark III amps have that awesome punchy tone that reminds me of the extreme mode in the Mk V. In your face loud without being overly harsh.

    i don't like metal, but.....

The Mark V is a swiss army amp if I ever saw one. It's got tons of tricks up it's sleeve, and you can play metal, jazz, or whatever using any of the channels if you tweak them right.

Best Tube Sets for the Mark V?

I've used Mesa's stock 6L6 and their Str450el34's. There both exceptional and I could not pick one or the other as being better. In a nutshell the 6L6's have more power, bass a grinding gain. The el34's have a smoother gain IMO and seem to have less volume fluctuation. I've been back and...

    Thin Sound on all Channels

Keep the FX send level around 11 and up otherwise you'll lose your tone. You have to keep the signal hot all the way through the line.

    Mmmmm..Mark I mode

I often use Crunch over Mark I mode. They're both great. Crunch is just a little lighter and nastier to me, and I get that super saturated flavor from channel 3.

gain question about the mark v

For me, there is a ton of gain on tap. It may have to do with your guitars, cables, or something. In my experience, compared to the Mk IV, the V is much clearer and distinct. Any inconsistencies are easy to pick out. Now the Memory Man pedal, for example.. sounds lush on the IV, but noisy on...

    What fuzz?

I've always wanted to get one, but not enough to splurge for it. One of these days I hope to find one cheap.

    Mark V revisions?

On the early ones the lettering on the face plate was easily rubbed off. I have one of those.

    All 3 channels live

It's not hard, but it isn't easy either to do it right. My advice is to download the amps manual and read it over a few times at least. Tweak the amp at the volume you intend to play at live. I've had a Mark IV for years and with my setup I have to adjust the gain and channel volumes to get...

    Tube question

I didn't know how to get the covers off of the preamp tubes, so I swapped out the 6L6's with some EL34's I had. Set the bias switch and now the problem is fixed. Thanks for the help.

    Tube question

Thanks I just ordered some from sweetwater. I may just try to swap out that first tube while I wait, as it's the original from a pre-500 Mark V. How do you retension the sockets?

    Tube question

I'm getting noise, through all channels. It doesn't really get louder when you turn it up, but it's noticable most of the time. Like a fire crackling almost. I've tried 2 differnt cables, no change. Turned off reverb FX loop and EQ, no change. Do you guys think it's the first preamp tube?

    Mark IV vs Mark V

I own both and could not part with either.. IMO the Mark IV's lead channel is the best.. it's just easy to play. It seems to have some serious mojo that isn't specific to any genre. I love channel 2 as well although many dislike it, i'm starting to think I got a lucky amp. Mostly i'll use my...
