Older Marshall 4x10 cabs--anyone tried with a Mark?

Yes. MKIIC+ into 1965A cab = one of the BEST tones I have ever had. There was nothing lacking except the backache from hauling a 4x12 around. It played extremely well with my green-stripe MKIII as well. Devastating, tight tone. I also used a Mesa 4x10 with the blue-label Jensens for a...

6V6's in my Heartbreaker - which bias setting?

I have seen that some recommend using the el-34 setting rather than the 6V6/6L6 one. Really? Why? I have it running with the 6V6 setting now. Do I risk letting the smoke out if I go over to the other bias setting? I am on Tweed power, tube rec, 1/2 power, and jacked into the 4-ohm setting with...

    The Mark III is awesome

I agree it is an awesome, dangerous-sounding amp. I have never been intimidated by a piece of gear before but this thing demands respect and careful use, or it WILL hurt you and anyone within earshot! I liked that aspect after a while, and even though I'm not a "metal" guy I really came to...

Heartbreaker - a tad more sparkle please!

Ok then. Here is the basic setup; guitar and pickups - varied but generally 25 1/2 scale planks with maple fingerboards, some with rosewood, usually "PAF" type output dimarzio or Duncan pickups in the bridge with singles in neck/middle usually stacked - one with Tom Anderson hot pu's that I...

Heartbreaker - a tad more sparkle please!

Still really digging the HB I scored a short time ago but I am thinking it could use just a hair more "chime" or "sparkle" to use silly words to describe sounds. I find I'm running the treble controls full-up and still want a bit more. I am generally running it in 1/2 power mode, bright switches...

    Heartbreaker Problems

My HB has a funky loop jack as well. Insert a cable and jumper it as mentioned and see what happens.

Back in the fold - Heartbroken!

Well, I got the mini-switches from Mesa and replaced the busted one so I can now switch between the Bold/Curvaceous modes. I guess it was stuck on "Curvaceous", because when I flipped that sucker over to "Bold" it **** near tore my head off! There are now 2 switches that I need to be...

Whats the deal w/ mark 3s?

My MKIIC+ was the best sounding amp I ever had until the original STR415's died, then it took a step back to merely mortal. It could do everything I wanted (NOT a metal guy) and had a sweetness about it coupled with a dynamic touch-sensitivity I have missed since. My MKIII green stripe long...

    FS: .50 Caliber +

This belongs to my bandmate. Super clean amp! http://www.hamerfanclub.com/forums/topic/56982-fs-91-mesa-boogie-50-caliber-plus-with-graphic-eq-550-shipped/

Back in the fold - Heartbroken!

Tommy-G, thanks for the feedback. A couple questions if I may: Is there a functional treason to mismatch when using other than the 6l6 tubes? Weak tranny on these or just a tonal thing? What does the change to an at7 get you in the 'verb driver slot? It seems lots of folks recommend speaker...

Back in the fold - Heartbroken!

First impressions after a few hours of spinning knobs and scaring the cats tells me that this is a real gem. I have owned a TON of Boogies, including the fabled MKIIC+ and this thing gets me everywhere I might want to go. Cleans can be warm and spongy or sharper and spiky with plenty of chime...

Back in the fold - Heartbroken!

I have been Boogie-less for a couple years now since I let my MKIIC+ go to a new home. I have been missing the punch that the MK series brought to the table, and found a suitable replacement today I think in the form of a Heartbreaker combo. I thought that I would be happy with a 20 watt el84...

Alabama Shootout - The DC-5 Challenge

Hey Bob, a certain Hamer Vector into my IIC+ is a recipe for magic. I took a spin on the local GC MKV, and I don't thiink your DC has any apologizing to do. Just sayin' Z

    Meet the "Baby Blue Angel"

Thanks to a couple brothers at the Hamer Fan Club, I scored this MKI reissue shell and stuffed my Subway Blues into it, and I now have the coolest 20 watt Boogie ever. This is how Mesa could have done it, but didn't. I dug the 1x10 combo a great deal, but couldn't resist trying a bigger box. I...

    Mark IIC+ effects loop ?

Hey man, are you gigging a IIC+ these days? I'm gonna be at a jammer in Rosemount this Sat. night (23rd) and if I'm not mistaked you'll be in Farmington? Something involving free beer and some IIC+ action could be very enticing! Z

    Mark IIC+ effects loop ?

My experience is that it is a perfectly fine loop that reflects what is being fed to it - you MUST use quality effects and cables to get the best results. If you run long cables that are high capacitance, you will lose high-end and experience "tone suck". I use lots of stuff in my MKIIC+ loop...

    Subway Blues Combo

These had a know issue that produced the "hum". Here is one thread addressing it: http://forum.grailtone.com/viewtopic.php?t=14425&highlight=subway+hum Mine does not hum. It is my second favorite amp after my MK and is SOOOO much easier to tote around. The hum really sucks, though, and is well...

Let's see your Mesa Mark amps!!!

The one that ended my "quest". A lowly, no EQ, Simul-Class MKII modded to "+" back in the day when the IIC+ was in production, "100" tranny and had all the original tubes on board (one of the "415's" died but the other 2 still rock on). It has the EV and I use an extension widebody 1x12...

Dual Rectifier Blue Angel - does it have a tube/SS rectifier

Which is it or does it have both and a switching scheme? Would it sound similar to my Subway Blus only with "more" everything (power, headroom, Mojo)? Z
