Which is it or does it have both and a switching scheme? Would it sound similar to my Subway Blus only with "more" everything (power, headroom, Mojo)? Z

It doesn't sound like any other Mesa that I've ever played.

It has a 5AR4 rectifier tube that powers the power tubes.

It has a diode rectifier that powers the preamp tubes.

The blue angel is tube rectified and SS rectified, the choice depends on what power tubes the user selects. User has no choice other than choosing 2x6v6, 4xel84, and 4xel84+2x6v6. At the settings that use the most plate current the amp is ss rectifed. At the 2x6v6 it is tube rectified. RTFM...the manual is available online at the mesa site. The Angel is one sweeeet amp. Peace.

It doesn't say that anywhere in the FM. The schematic pretty clearly shows the 5AR4 supplies the 300+ volts to the power tubes and the diodes supply 180v to the preamp tubes.
