Amps are like girlfriends... If you get rid of one, there are many more to choose from. Unless you live in a small town like Monsta-Tone... Then you may have to mail order a new one.

At rehearsal last night, the first hour or so felt like pulling teeth trying to get a fluid sound out of my Mark IV. Even the singer commented on the problem with my tone. After two hours, everything started to flow. I just had the power tubes retubed and am not too sure if the new tubes need...

Similar sitch here. The Mark IV is said to give a smoother tone, while the Rectos are more aggressive. I tolerate it because I do sometimes like the IV smoothness. However, other times, I wish the tone was more huge, even after maxing a "V" on the graphic EQ. Fortunately, I have other amps...

Thanks for your input. Jon and I may have a different series. Either that or maybe we can adjust the rack ears. I'll try to post some pics.

The top of the Quad seems to be raised to the point where other rack gear will not fit above it in the next available space and it will not fit in the top spot of the rack. How do you guys deal with it? Leave the space above vacant? Mutiliate your rack? (which is what I did).

+1 I also thought the Quad didn't have enough gain when I first got the it (I purchased it as my first Mesa/Boogie without hearing it). Then I learned how to dial it in and now I can set it so it is untamable to the point of which I keep the drive settings below 5 and the input volume and...

Trem, Ok. I'll just swap out the EL34's for 6L6's. Schmoog, All of the tubes are Mesa. I have experimented with the most extreme "V" eq setting and still get boxiness. Rabies, I have tried various settings and right now it is set at: Triode, Simul, Harmonics, Full Power Lead Channel...

I swear my Mark IV sounds "boxy" when compared to my TriAxis, even when running it through the same 4x12 cabinet. In fact, I'm almost to the point of trading it for a Rectifier. However, I noticed in another thread: My Mark IV has two EL34's outside of two 6L6's. Could this be the problem...
