    LSS popping

I've had several LSS's over the last 20 years or so. They pop during shut down for me too. Don't know why, I turn the volume off then hit the power switch off.

Why do you players sell their LS Specials?

My LSS bond started off miserably. I just got back into playing electric after 25 years of acoustic. I bought a new LSS at GC, $1900 back in 1998 or so. Learning curve on the amp was tough, it didn't catch me and I traded it back for an LSC. the LSC was sold after a couple of years and I went...

best matched EL84 quads for LSS

I thought the stock MB tubes sounded best in the LSS after some swapping around. JJ's have sounded better in my other EL84 amps. What do you guys like and where is your source?

LSS best tubes for max clean headroom

I played a gig yesterday and noticed the amp was breaking up sooner than previous outings. I played it this morning so there doesn't appear or sound like there are any issues. I bought it used a year ago and tubes are what came with it. Amp probably could use a tube swap since I play it about...

LSS combo with a 2x10 layout

So I am on my 4th time around with a the LSS. Always happy to have one in my amp lineup. This one is all stock and 4-5 years old. Along the way I have had a Bogner Metropolis 30 watt 1x12 and a Dr Z Maz 38 NR 2x10 which are close to the LSS tonewise. I really liked the Z and when I loaded it...

    Speaker Recommendation for LSS

I have been using an Emi Wizard and a Rt 66 Comp. Sounds a whole lot bigger, still Fendery and plenty of sparkle. Last night at rehearsal the LSS just sang clean and just a little dirty on the Drive channel. Great speaker for the LSS

    Foo Fighters & Lone Star

I am pretty sure Al DiMeola used a LSC firing into the back of a Fuchs during the Return To Forever show last year. The Fuchs was miced and the idea was to generate that much more sound by the sound waves from the LSC hitting the Fuch's speakers. Check out midway through page 2 of the TGP...

    New Lonestar Special!!!

Funny, I tried JJ's power tubes and did not like them. The stock MB's had a better, bigger sound to me. YMMV, of course. Keep an extra rec tube on hand. they go often enough to carry a spare. I have an Emi Wizard in mine and like that more than the stock MB speaker. More open and brighter...

    Weird rec tubes

I have an 07 LSS. I switched a Sovtek 5Y3 and put in a 60's CBS 5Y3. When I switch through the power levels with the CBS installed, I hear a distinct increase in the volume levels going from 5 to 15 to 30 watts. With the Sovtek, I do not hear an increase in volume going from 15 to 30 watts...

    Lonestar Special Reliability

Only issue I have had with my LSS is blowing two rec tubes. One time the fuse went too. I bought a couple of spares. Hope you solve this dilemna, It's a great amp

LSS Loop in or out? Send level setting

I'm wondering where you LSS owners set yours at. I have the loop in and max the send level. More meat to the tone and it's louder too.

    Blown Speaker in Lonestar Classic

I put a new Emi Wizard in my LSS today. I had another Wiz in the LSS, but that's in my Fargen now. The Wizard is a great all around speaker that's clearer, brighter and more mids than the stock C90. The Wiz has the American flavor with a little British voicing mixed in. Nice balance

    LSS speaker options

I pulled the Wizard out of the LSS because I wanted to try it in my Fargeen Blackbird 40. The wizard is an amazing sounding speaker in the BB. The Tonker sounds great in the LSS, but not as good as the Wizard. Buy another Wizard time.

    Rectifier Tube recommendation

the Sovtek I put in last Feb to replace the one year old stock MB rec tube went today. I think it was a $12 tube. I checking out what's available but would be grateful for some guidance if you have something you liked. $30-40 is OK

    LSS speaker options

Well the C90 is gone and on the market. I got an Emi Wizard used at a decent price and put it in. first couple of chords and I knew it was a winner. The W just seems to be more expressive and stronger in the mid range. I was totally happy with my LSS stock, but I can't leave well enough...

    LSS speaker options

I have had my LSS for almost a year and am very happy with. Of course, I feel it's time to try some different speakers. Just out of curiosity. I have an extra Tonker, Tonkerlite and an RWB. Anyone have experience with any of these speakers in a 1x12 LSS combo? I play mostly single coils and...

    Bad footswitch cable on LSS

I have read here before that the MB cables go bad. Mine stopped working last week and I used a Fishman cable for the gig. There is a big difference is the quality of the Fishman and the MB cables, night and day. I looked at the MB jacks and they appear to be OK. Where do these breaks happen...

    Goosing the LSS?

Menatone Red Snapper does the OD thing for me on my DRRI and Carr Rambler. I started using it last month on the LSS. As much as I liked the drive channel alone, the RS really adds a sweeter OD to the LSS

    LSS Speaker Swaps

Bill11, thanks for the post. My opinion has been going in the same direction. Swapping and demoing a bunch of speakers, only to come back to the MB stock speaker. The stock speaker is just fine as were the stock tubes. I put in JJ's only to reinstall the Mesa's, whatever they are. I liked...

    LSS Speaker Swaps

Thanks to all for the feedback. Did you ever try a Weber Beam Blocker? I have had them in most of my amps with success. Nice dispertion to the sides. The LSS has no beaminess that I can hear, but a BB helped my other amps. I'm happy with the stock speaker, but it's a tweaker's thing that's...
