    Mark V recording

If you have the luxury of a good engineer and studio, there's nothing like it. At my home studio, I have never been able to nail those sounds properly. So now, I use a dummy load (http://www.suhr.com/amplifiers-for-electric-guitars/Reactive-Load/), take a DI out to my DAW and use speaker/mic...

    Mesa pedals = WOW!!!

Thanks guys, definitely will be checking these pedals out.

Marshall Plexi tone from a Mark V:25

Try finding it on the crunch channel with some EQ. You could try using a boost pedal too. For a long time Marshall owner, these will all be approximations of a Marshall though.

    Mark V:35 Output Master Volume

I have the V 90 with the master volume. At stage volume levels, what I've found is that just bumping the master knob does not really maintain the balance across channels. At lower overall master volumes, my ch2/ch3 channel volume needs to be higher. When I bump up the master volume, I generally...

    Mesa pedals = WOW!!!

Any chance you could put up a couple of clips on Crunch mode with and without the grid slammer? I've been looking for some more punch in the crunch channel for when the chorus hits and am wondering if the grid slammer would really be more different than the bb preamp that I have.

Mark V 25 quite low gain

Also the way Mark rotary eq works, if you dime the treble the mid control has very little signal to work with. Try keeping the treble rotary around 1:30-2 and use the graphic eq for more sizzle. As daisy mentioned, you need to give it some time to let your ears adapt to the MkV sound. However...

"CRUNCH" TONE ON CHANNEL 3 ?

Definitely look for it in IIc mode. Lower gain and boosting highs on the graphic eq should get you there.

Speaker for the Mesa Mark V: 35??? Any thoughts???

I've tried the V30s and G12H30 in a 2x12 combination. I couldn't bond with the V30s, it sounded harsh to me, maybe it needed more break-in time. The G12H30 was good but something was still missing. I never got a good mic'd up sound with the V30s either, I just couldn't find the sweet spot. I...

    Mark V or Mark V 35

I like the flexibility of 3 channels in the full Mark V. Also the fact that both clean and crunch are on the same channel 1 on the smaller Mark V is a no-go for me. These two are my most used channels in a band context. 6L6 really shine on the clean channel, I am not sure about EL84s. Also, the...

    Flashback mini and ep booster

I have the flashback (regular) and the xotic EP. I use the EP last in the chain in the effects loop. It is always on and adds a bit of sparkle, very nice pedal. I prefer the 2290 mode on the flashback, works great for ch:3 lead work.

    Overdrive for Mark V

Hello, I know this has been discussed all over, but I did want to revive this topic. I am looking for an OD (or maybe a treble booster) that thickens and adds some more growl and maybe some top end to my rhythm channel (usually crunch, sometimes mark IV). I have an analogman KoT, honestly I...

    Are amps like wine?

With the Mark V, like wine, for me it has just been understanding the nuances; the rotary controls and the GEQ and just adding or subtracting enough to taste. I can't get enough of this amp, it's been 4 years and nothing comes close to the power, feel and clarity of the Mark V.

    White noise problem

Just an update on this issue. Took my amp to a tech. There was no real problem that he found. He just removed all the tubes and cleaned out the sockets. Voila, the background sound was back to normal. Just played it out at a gig this weekend and it was back with its monster tone ! :)

Mark V and MXR ten band EQ

Sounds interesting, I've got to try this out. I have the mxr 10 band eq with me but thought the GEQ on the mark v provided a similar function and just never bothered hooking it up.

    Random Mark V chat...

Very interesting ! ScreamingDaisy, please continue to post your insights. Just read the one about keeping channel masters lower while turning up the output. That's a great observation, can't wait to try it out once my amp is back from the shop.
