As an update:
The wonderful folks at Mesa 2 day’d me a new black shadow speaker. Install was pretty painless, I took out the chassis and reverb tank. Right off the bat it was working great.
I played it loud and pushed it hard at practice yesterday and it sounded fantastic- problem free. Looks like we’re out of the woods. Maybe a weird voice coil issue, maybe a fluke. Who knows!
This amp is really IT. I can’t imagine playing without it at this point. Glad it’s good to go again.
