    Vox lil night train

I have its big brother, The Night Train. It kicks butt, and with its 15 watts of very usable power, I think it's a viable option for playing at home, rehearsal ---- maybe even on stage. I play it though one twelve at a time and the speaker I like best is an Eminence, but YMMV.

    Tuner to use inline

TC Electronic Polytune is full-bypass and lets you tune at least six strings at a time. There are some others out there, too.

    Another Cab Question

I have to take issue with the V30 users who find the cab to be "darker" --- whatever that means. I find that it's SIGNIFICANTLY less treble biased and, if that's what's meant by "darker", so be it. I've played a vertical 2x12 with V30s and a C90 1x12 -- though the difference is...

    The horror....the horror....

I'm not sure how insurance companies work over there, but often you can buy the damaged goods for 10 or 20 cents on the dollar. Since it's such a unique item (you could tell them it's a super, ultra-custom whatever), they might just go for it rather than try to sell it for salvage. You could...

    Poll on Mesa Tubes

I've owned my MK IV for six months or so. I had a failure that was likely due to a screw up on my part. Mesa suggested I replace the power tubes as a first step. I bought new 6L6 440's from them to 'play it safe'. The problem was fixed, the amp sounds great and I'm happy. I can't say I...

    Mark IV Tube Help!

It never fails to amaze me that an amp designed around vacuum tubes is so easily fixed by.... wait for it.... replacing the vacuum tubes! I don't think the tech support guys at Mesa recommend replacing the power tubes by accident. The know that this fixes most problems most of the time.

    Speaker break-in period

IMHO, guitar speakers go through a short break-in period. The Celestion comment above seems about right. On the other hand, I spent about twenty hours (or a little more) breaking in my Paradigm stereo speakers. They have kevlar drivers that need more time to smooth out.

    Can i use this speaker?

I think you'd be fine unless you really crank it.

A Short Rock Original - "Work it Out" (Mark 2B 60w)

Very nicely done! Great gtr tones. Nicely produced, too.

best practice amp I have ever heard

I got a Night Train last weekend and it's great for practice. It's not very loud, but you can pull off a wide variety of tones, right up to heavy grind and distortion. Just don't try to do too much with a single channel, EL84, 15-watt amp.

Adding a Thiele to my rig - opinions?

****. The guy selling the Thiele did not have one. It was an older, closed-back cab about 24" deep. Def not a Thiele. I passed on it. Guess I'll keep looking. Thanks for the help so far, gents.

    London gig!

Too bad I live in Denver or I'd check you out. You sound good. And I think it's a GREAT idea to distribute your EP to fans just for signing up with the band. Great promo!

Ooh, Is Mark IV Hype Starting Too?

There certainly is plenty of respect for the IV out there. I'm not sure there's two grand of respect, but as an owner, I have to agree that it's a great, collectible (but mostly playable!) amp. With other, less capable new amps selling for similar prices, I don't see increasing values as...

Adding a Thiele to my rig - opinions?

I have a MK IV head and 1x12 open back C90 cab. I have a chance to buy a 1x12 Theile cab today. I think it will help balance my mix and give me a total of three cab options - open/Thiele/both. Good idea or waste of time and money? I think it's smart. Wanna chime in? Thanks...... Ed
