Recently I ve been thinking of getting a nice iso box to record my mark III. There are 2 main reasons ...Not being able to play it loud while recording using my shure sm 57 + the combo version which sounds kinda boxy. It lacks some bottom end. I won't be able to pick up a 4x12 due to lack of space + I am a bedroom player. The iso box I'm planning to get was made by some professionals here in Greece and it's based on the "Box of Doom" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-0QOD2CbbbI
The one I am getting was altered to enable the air flow better + some parts of felt were added for better iso results. You can check the pictures here.

Now, I was a bit skeptical when I was first told about this box. I don't really know what to expect in terms of the tones I wll be getting out of it. I ve also asked some people who have been using it for some time now and the told me that the tones are very nice and not boxy sounding at all. As far as the speaker goes, I m gonna have to try it with the evm12l black shadow because this is the one available right now. Do you think I should just wait to get the celestion g12t 75 instead? I am mainly interested in metal sounds.

I don't know how they'll perform in your iso cab, but in regular use I think the EVM-12L is a much better speaker than the G12T-75. Although my normal setup for a metal amp is half EVM speakers, and half V30s. If I had to commit to using just one speakers I'd probably choose a V30 but I wouldn't be thrilled.

how about mesa cab clone?
I hate this thing. I really do! The only one I'd consider buying would be the Torpedo Reload but it's 600 euros. The cab costs about the same money + I'd get the real tone. I 'd much rather have the actual tone than IRs. Of course I'' be testing the iso box for a couple of days. The guy who owns is currently using his kemper thing, and this is why he's willing to sell it. I kinda talked him into it because he didn't intend to initially. I know he he has used it both in the studio and home for some serious recording stuff. He's also told me that he hated the V30 and that the EVM sounds much better than that.

These speakers are so different that it almost doesn't make sense to just talk about one being "better"! They're pretty much opposites so of course if you want what one of them does, you'll hate the other. EVM-12L will give you low end and clarity, V30 will give you midrange that cuts through a mix. They're each great at what they do.

I ended up using the evm found in my combo! Clips to come! The iso box doesn't sound boxy at all!

This is my first clip using the box! It sure doesn't sound boxy at all! This time I didn't have the time to experiment using different mic positions.
