Ports on Some Recto Vertical Slant 2 x 12 Cabs?

I have a MkV with the Vertical Slant 2x12 Recto Cabinet (closed back). I have seen quite a few pictures of 2x12 Vertical Slant Recto cabs with the metal grills (which makes it easy to see the baffle) that have two vertical slots or ports on either side of the bottom speaker. I don't think mine...

Eventide H9 Coloring Tone in FX Loop

I wonder if anyone has any advice or insight to offer about an H9 in my FX Loop that is slightly coloring the tone when engaged. First here is a demo of the difference in sound with some comments posted for when the effect is turned on and off. If I had to describe it I would almost say it is a...

    Question about hardwood cabinet finishes....

I'll post this here because it's the only sub-forum I read and post in. Hope it's ok... I have a Mark V and 2x12 Vertical Recto cabinet with the Tasmanian Blackwood (love it... favorite amp). I also have another combo 2x12 amp from another popular manufacturer which is also a very nice amp...

Confused about the FX Loop on the MKV...

The manual says the FX loop is in series but it is behaving like it is in parallel. I have an H9 in my effects loop which has an output level adjustment. If I reduce the output level of the H9 all the way down, I can hear the dry signal (as it is before going to the FX loop). It is really...

    SPAX-7 priorities.

For a Mk V, if you had a few SPAX7 tubes it seems logical to use them in spots that are earlier in the gain sequence (i.e. V1, V2, V3 to start with). Is my logic wrong? What about V7 (Driver/Phase Inverter)? Does it make any sense to use one there? If you had 7 SPAX7s, would you use one in...

    7 String Guitar Considerations

I have a Mark V (90 watt) head and a 2x12 Vertical Recto Cabinet (with Celestion V30s I believe, I never changed them or asked for a custom speaker). I honestly feel a little hesitant to ask this and I have Google searched the topic and have seen everything from "It may damage your amplifier" to...

    Built-in Cab Clone position...

I have a Mark V (90 Watt head and 2x12 vertical Recto cabinet) and a Cab Clone. I am very happy with it. It sounds great and records great and has very low noise if the Cab Clone is a few feet away from the head or powered monitors, etc. I also own a JVM 410 Combo which is a very nice amp. I...

    Interesting mix-up.

I have a Mark V head and separate speaker cabinet with a Cab Clone. I have had good success recording into Cubase with this setup but decided I wanted to do some "silent" recording and monitor via the audio interface so I unplugged the speaker cable from the back of the Cab Clone labeled "thru...

    Replacement fuse...

I want to get a spare fuse or two. Just in case... Does Mesa "require" their fuses for warranty coverage or is a same specification fuse valid. I read that not using their valves could void the warranty, which I understand, due to the way they select the tubes to need no bias...

    Mark V, JVM4 observations... Thoughts?

I have had my MV with the vertical 2x12 cabinet for a few years now and absolutely love it. I recently picked up a JVM410 combo for a really good deal. For clean and crunchy tones I am very happy with it but for high gain my initial observation is that it is definitely inferior to the MV...

Don't put CabClone on top of head.

Maybe this should have been common sense but I was getting a fairly high level of 60 Hz (and harmonics, i.e. 120Hz, 180Hz, etc.) hum in my DAW from my Cabclone. I was pretty sure it wasn't the rig because, by itself, it is pretty quiet. I thought it might be the audio interface for a while too...
