4 Triaxis' and 2 Diezel V4s? Psh, that's the bargain bin.

James' rig is sick, but with that much crap running, I would think he'd have an amazing rhythm tone. His latest rhythm tones have been not so good to say the least. Why is he running all of those amps? You would think he could get the same tone out of one triaxis instead of using 4 of them. Anybody else think his rig's a bit overkill?

He is probably using two of them and two are for back up in case one fails. thats why hes got doubles of everything. We carry back up tubes to a gig he just carrys a back-up of everything so he can switch over without anyone knowing

Because James Hetfield has thousands of dollars worth of gear? I don't quite see the logic there...

By the way metallica/petrucci completely ignored the III!

Yeah, they didn't play Strats, either, so I guess Jimi was full of crap, too.

Even if his Triaxis is modded, you would think he still woudn't need a modded Triaxis and Diezel VH-4 to get great tones. I would think if you're running a Diezel, you'd have plenty of good tones available or vice versa with the Triaxis.

I just can't believe with all that gear how crappy his live tone is. Same goes with Kirk too. I think they need to go back to using the IIC+'s. I'm sure they have enough of them.

I think they should go back to using Marshalls. Ride the Lightning anyone?

i think RTLs tone was awesome, but they went the mesa for the next album to have a different sound, that was as identifiable. like you hear RTL and think marshall... they wanted different, hence the Mark 2 c+, which was a crushing tone.

anyway, i wonder if they have them, or it was happy luck that they went to record that album and they were there.

I think the new album has an agressive guitar tone, but 1 is compressed to the cd (mastering) too much which creates distortion at the end users speaker, and i dont think they mix their albums well anymore, my guess is so they seem agressive and heavy. but since bob rock decided to record them as a "garage band" on st anger it hasnt sounded right. they used to have a great mix of guitar tones, and a melody that one could sing.

now its just poor lyrics and shouting.
this i swear, THis I Swear, THIS I SWEAR (ugh)

In all honesty, I think James' current tone sucks.
Metallica should have sticked to their 80s early 90s tone.
This is the ultimate Hetfield rig.

And for the record, The best Metallica tone ever was and always will be the Justice tone. It was tight as hell, and sonically it was the apex of Metallica's tone. What possessed them to stray away into the Nu Metal tone. >_<

justice is all my fav tone.. i like to call it the anti tone, since its so metallic and seems to be void of something (mids probably, its like the antithesis of VH's tone.. if VH had the best rock tone, Metallica on justice has the best metal tone) its almost mechanical.

seeing some interveiws with them, it doesnt seem like they like it as much in hindsight. they were mad about losing cliff, and lars and james decided to make guitars and drums crush all on that album (thankfully, if they did anything like there past 2 albums it probably wouldnt be as good)... get it.. i dont like the production after reload.. actually garage inc sounded good too...

He could do much more with much less. I liken that rig to killing a spider with a flaming brick.

That was funny, spider with a flaming brick,, good one!! sh!t the mesa's sound good with out all the extra stuff, no need for it, and I agree 80's 90's tone was Metalica, not this flat, no sustain crap they play now. See what happens when you cut your hair!!! LOL
There new album to me seems to be by far the worse album yet, I for one would not go see them, They are some new moprhed metallica imposters !!!! :P
