WOW...big time Staind Sound.

Here's my simple yet effective setup:

Yamaha AW 4416 w/2 ADAT expansion cards (waiting to arrive)
SM 57
MXL cheapie condenser mics

HD 280 cans
Grado cans

Future purchases will most likely be:

Some small high near field monitors (not sure which ones I want yet)
2 Behringer ADA8000 8 mic preamp to ADAT (this will give me 16 mic inputs for the AW)

That's about it. I am trying to stay with a hardware based recorder until i get a decent computer (like a macbook). Or I might just stick with the 4416 if it works out for me.

yeayea, an excuse to post MY pc specs :D

You do know that the 8800GTS will handle physics on its own right? You really dont need the card, if you are using the 8800's.. The whole physics card thing was over and done with before it ever really got off the ground.

Especially with dual and quadcore cpu's becoming mainstream. Developers will utilize the gpu and cpu more for physics than those cards.

Other than that , nice rig. If you want to learn how to really push your system to its max check out www.blazingpc.com

My relatively simple setup. I'm in the process of making a few changes to it. I just got the computer. Unfortunately, I'm finding out after the fact that Vista drivers aren't available for a lot of what I need to do. I'm not a happy camper.

Edit: Got a last minute Christmas present. M-Audio finally released Vista drivers. So far, so good.

Been out for a couple months, and didn't even notice this sub-forum was created!

My setup hasn't changed much lately (I'm lusting after some Dynaudio BM6A-MkI monitors, but don't have $1800 laying around at the moment, having moved into a new house).

Here's an edited list of what I use just on the recording end (you can see the rest of my gear along with recorded tunes at my Soundclick site):

Mics: Audix I5, Shure SM-57
Recording Interface: Metric Halo ULN-2, MBox
DAW: ProTools LE & Cubase Studio 4
Computer: MacPro Quad Zeon 2.66, MacBook Pro Dual 2.16
HD: Glyph GT050 external
Monitors: M-Audio BX8 with M-Patch volume control

Hopefully soon I'll be posting samples of my band's demo tracks, which will be with a much higher-end setup.

My setup - UX8 - Mackie Tracktion
8 inputs at once (8 tracks at once if desired)
Peavy mixer to monitor.
GNX4 for drum machine
PODXTL - Vocalist 4
works really nice - Gearbox plug in for reamping in fx over dry guitar.
I record a dry and a wet track at the same time. The dry can then
be used to feed the vocalist4 clean guitar for its harmony recognition.

P.S. - I've cleaned it up and sorted the cables since this pic!

I may not play well - but my room at least looks cool. :D

THANKS! - as they say on cribs - this is where the magic happends... (or in my case... the noise is produced). more from THE MAN CAVE.... the UX8 is great... a little hard to learn at first (the secret is to call up the driver program that allows you to mute/include any channel into any other channel. Once I found that - it was really sweet to use.
