Mesa tubes or others? Full re-tube, what to buy?

I say, stick a nice delay pedal in the FX loop, and use the Output volume control as your master. This gives me a wider usable range of volume. I also wouldn't waste your time trying to get a distorted tone out of the amplifier section unless you're playing this at a club. Set the channel...

Ok, thanks bro. I have to get out and try one of these, tax returns being filed soon. ;)

First Boogie. First Thread. Mark V 25 review (yes another!)

For balls out of the bridge, I like either the Seymour Duncan or Dimarzio Duncan and Super Distortion models respectively. They cut nicely, but really push the amp...probably the two most flexible pickups from those brands, which make adjustments very easy on the amp's tone controls. Seymour...

First Boogie. First Thread. Mark V 25 review (yes another!)

Nice rig bro, love that Gibby Explorer. Yet again, another M5 25 thread that's causing my wallet to quiver. Congrats on the degree, and the amp! I may have missed this during the thread, what kind of speakers do you have in that cab? I wonder if the V1 preamp tube is still a b1tch to get to?

    NAD - Mk V + 1 x 12 wide body cab

BTW, the channel switching will pop on the same wattages across channels during the first time that you switch them. What I do, is once I take it out of standby, is scroll through the channels, then go to the channel I'm going to start with. After that, no more popping. I like this amp so much...

You guys are killing me with these new amp day posts of the M5 25. Anyone know if the power switch has a variac/tweed mode? I checked the manual online, and I didn't notice a reference to it.

Are you using a pedal buffer? Which one?

What Cho said, the Boss probably has one. However, like others have also said, I doubt you'll need it.

Mark V Problems - 3rd Channel Hum + Volume Drop

I'm curious. What were the tubes you originally purchased from Doug, and did the new tubes resolve the problem?

Though I think we're hijacking this poor guy's thread at this point, I'm just going to say that sound is subjective. What's tight to you might be tubby to me. While I think the tone is great on it's own, I still feel that Ch3 benefits from proper use of a high quality OD pedal. That is, gain on...

Hurry, John Petrucci and hundreds of other well known artists are waiting for your phone call! They need to be educated!

My goal for Ch2 is SRV as well. I haven't put much time into it though, and will probably do that when I get home tonight. Good move on the Koko. I saw a few good Youtube vids that made that pedal sing!

    Mark V sound dropping out.

Don't worry about the tubes glowing blue. That's not a problem. I agree with a full retube. Many times, the cost you save in buying used just brings you back to the costs of immediate regular tube maintenance. I purchased TAD power tubes from Dougs, and they worked well. I also purchased a...

Downsizing from the 2x12 Vertical Slant, try another recto?

I haven't heard them both side by side, but in theory, if you decrease the amount of space in a sealed cab, you're going to also decrease the damping. So, the smaller cab may emphasize the low frequencies a bit more, and require some careful tuning of those frequencies with your amp/eq.

Always wanted to grab an Xotic. It must sound glorious taking input from those Norlin LPs that you have. :D

    Opeth Tone? Need Help

Ok, so here's how this works now. You take a day off of work next week, pick up a new set of strings and a soldering iron, then report back IMMEDIATELY! ;) I'm eager to learn what you think of that JB. I just posted a large statement about the clarity which a decent OD pedal can add to your...
