Yes, the mod can be performed on the Quad. As to how it will sound, I couldn't tell you.. Given the relative simplicity of the mod (adding a few capacitors, changing out some resistors), it shouldn't cost too much to do the mod or have a tech do it for you. The Quad is pretty much two Studio...

My guess would be yes.. I looked at the schematics and they don't show the recording out circuit. Easiest way to test it is to use the FX send into your poweramp and compare the two.

From my understanding the inductors/capacitors in the recording outs put a load on the main outs.. Best solution would be to use the effects out into your processor rather than trying to disconnect the recording outs. Getting to the resistors in the recording out circuit is a pain, I tried it...

No, it's not normal. Sounds like one of your speakers is out of phase so the cabinets are cancelling each others bass response. Check that first.. Could also be a speaker cable that is wired in reverse on one end, but chances of that are rare.
