So! I had my boogie serviced and modded by Monsta-Tone like ten years ago (including replacing all the filter caps). I played it for a year or so and, due to the sheer terror and ferocity of it, downsized to another rig. FFD to now. Took the Boogie out of the rack, put it back in its headshell...

Never did sell. Got out of debt. Got married. Had (the world's best) kids. Finished college and grad school. Still have that Mk. III. Still a total monster. Glad I never sold it.

Yeah. CoG is right - depending on what you mean by aggressive, of course. My amp, in my opinion, is freaking mean sounding. But I didn't set it up for the mid-scoped thrash metal kind of tone. Definitely NOT Dimebag-esque. More Dream Theater than Pantera. For THAT kind of metal aggressive, 6L6s...

Try rolling tubes in the V2 position. A JJ high gain would get you a little more gain, but they're a bit dark. I put an old Mullard short-plate in V2 and got just the gain character that I wanted from it.

I LOVE KT77s in my Mk. III. I have a pair of KT77s in the outer sockets and a pair of SED 6L6GCs in the inner sockets. The KT77 sounds like the love-child of an EL34L and a 6L6. They have the saturation and breakup of an EL34, but without all that midrange bite. Still thick and warm like a 6L6...

Well. The cleans on my Mk. III were GREATLY improved after Monsta-Tone modded it for me. Ask him about the Cam mod ;)

Nah. As much as I love this amp - I can't regret selling it. It's totally replaceable. Getting out of debt before my wedding is way more important to me. I can always get another one. Or - who knows - something else. :) PS - Somebody buy this already!
