Anyone have an opinion on the vintage vertical 2x12 cab that Mesa used to make? This was the one with the expanded metal grill, and I believe the bottom half of the cab was ported.

What were the overall dimensions and weight of these cabs?

Post pics if you have 'em!

..the cab you describe was used by the late Michael Houser of Widespread Panic. He typically used two of them. I love the way they sounded. He had them loaded with EV speakers.

I bought a 4x12 from the same era. It's an open (top)/ closed (bottom) format. It sounds great with my mk iib.

here's a photo:

I imagine he ran them in stereo.

I see them on ebay from time to time and one had the dimensions listed that were slightly larger than the current 2x12 Vertical and they were half backs.
I don't know if they actually were larger, to me they look about the same. I own the current 2x12 vertical.

I remember playing through the old style back in 1992 when I was originally demoing the Mark series amps.
I remember them sounding ok but would have liked a full back version.

There are 2 on ebay right now, the first one looks mint and at a good price (Buy It Now $440.00 with free shipping)
Too bad I'm broke right now.

Check the wattage and speakers on those cabs. I'm pretty sure there are a couple of varieties out there. The better ones have EV's in the bottom (with ports) and C-90's (open back) on the top. I believe the speakers varied from time to time. I've certainly seen 4x12's that do not have the EV's.

gts,
What are the dimensions of your 2x12 cab?
Is it larger than the current vertical 2x12?
27-7/8in H
23-5/8in W
14--1/4in D
11-1/2in (top)

Thanks!
