Hey guys, long time Mesa Boogie player, new forum poster.

Just want some advice on a rig I'm building.
I have a series 1 peavey 5150 (full of Ei tube in V1 and jj in the rest)
And my trusty Mesa Dual Rec (loaded with tung sol in V1 and jj in the rest and KT88's biased in the power section)
I run a tonne of rack gear and 2 cabs also, a recto 4x12 with 2xV30's and 2x K-100's and an orange 4x12 with 4xv30's..........

Basically I want try blending my 2 amps to make one death metal destroyer.
Can anyone give me any advice on running my peavey send into my Mesa return
So I can have that super tight peavey crunch but make my speakers kill the crowd with Mesa power section.
Is it safe? Has anyone else done this kind of thing?
Anything I should bare in mind with matching volume levels or anything or just plug it in and roll up the volume?

Thanks guys!

Plug the Peavey's fx loop send into the Mesa's Fx return and adjust the volumes to taste as per normal.

Just remember that you need a cab attached to the Peavey to keep a load on it or you'll destroy it.

So I'd have to run 2 cabs or 1 cab in stereo?
Couldn't I run from the preamp remote out instead of the fx send on the peavey to the return on the Mesa, then the peavey wouldn't need to be under load?

Remove the power tubes from the Peavey. Then it will definitely be safe.

It will also be safe if you remove the phase inverter tube, but make sure you get the right one! It should be the 12AX7 closest to the power tubes.

You could put a shorted plug in the FX return, which will also mute the power section. If it has a mix control set it to full *up*. (I can't remember if the 5150 does.)

These are in increasing order of ease but decreasing order of foolproof-ness. Removing the power tubes is the safest.
