Post what guitars/pickups you are going to use with your MarkV and why... What sound(s) are you going for and why do you think the Mark V will get you there?

I am getting DiMarzio Super Distortion and PAF-Pro pickups installed in my Ibanez RG 1620 tomorrow and will be using the SD with the Mark V to get a high gain, (hopefully huge) metal rhythm sound on channel 3.

I will also be using channel 2 with a coil tap on the bridge pickup to get a single coil rock tone and a lead sound with the neck and bridge pickups untapped, and using my RG's built in piezo pickup in the bridge with channel 1 clean mode for my acoustic parts.

I have a few guitars I will be trying different setups with, EMG-HZ passive, EMG Zakk Wylde actives in some Jackson and Ibanez guitars.

I am pretty pumped though to try the EMG 707's in my Schecter Jeff Loomis and the Seymor Duncan Dave Mustaine Signatures in his Dean Flying V (Angel of Deth model). I love both those guitars and whatever I play them through always sounds good, but I haven't used them with anything serious like the Mark V yet.

I have many, many guitars; Fenders, Gibsons, Ibanez, Rick, Gretsch, Burns, Hamer, Crook, Carvin, etc. The guitars which get daily use out of all of these are the Carvins. They're my workhorses. They just play and sound better than all of the 'major' brands for me, and they 'stay in tune'.

So, the pickups I use through the Mark V right now are 3 versions of Carvin pickups. I also use my Crook Tele quite often these days too.

S22's on my SH65 synth-controller guitar
C22's on my DC127
H22's on my V220M

These are all humbuckers with split switches. They sound equally as good as either single or dual coils.

On the Crook Tele, I have an Adder neck pickup and a Voodoo broadcaster bridge pickup.
Everything sounds great through the Mark V.

Strat with Dimarzios (Air Nortons, Chopper, Tone Zone)

I play all styles of music - mostly kidsy indy rock stuff - which could sound like anything.

So far:
Lawrence L500L and L500R - sound great for everything, metal included, jazz too, even country. If I played metal like a lot of folks here, I'd definitely try them out, or the more popular L500XL

Fender '62 Custom (us) pickups - hey, it doesn't get much more tele than this. They work too.

Lawrence L290TLE - in a Nashville tele. Well, this gets more vintage tele, IMO. This pickup can sound really nice and snarly into any of the channels, being as hot as a tele pickup can get, save maybe a wierdo DImarzio Tone-zone tele pickup in my parts pile.
The other pickups in this guitar sound great too - but generally if I'm playing low gain, I prefer the looser sound of the '62 custom tele pickups for the neck. The middle pickup on this guitar is a Lawrence strat S280 - I'm not really a strat guy, but it sounds, well, stratty. Haven't played it much aside from positions 2 and 4.

Duncan Custom Custom Custom - in a Godin LGX-SA. Yep, this is a well rounded pickup, well suited to indy rock, classic rock - it could barely squeak into punk if the gain's high enough. Really nice sounding - mellow - as the highs are rolled off a bit and it sounds a little more easy going even at high gain.

Duncan Jazz - same git as above. As warm as it gets - like a PAF-57.

Gibson P-90s in a Korean Epi Casino... well, they can grind a little, but you're feedbacking pretty nicely at that point - which is the whole point of this guitar. I was pretty surprised to hear "In My Life" sound just like The Beatles on channel 1 in Tweed mode with this guitar.

On the whole, I love this amp SO much more than my Mark IV. It feels like it reacts a lot more with the the guitar than the IV does, and handles different pickups better. Channels 1 and 2 are more more touch sensitive than the respective channels on the IV.

I'm using several different types with mostly great results. Have a JB in one Strat and a Super Distortion in the other Strat, both are excellent. Tone Zone in my Ibanez is HUGE! Have an Alnico II Pro in my LP, sounds just great. Of course, these are all bridge PUP's. In the neck and mids of my Strats I have Lollar Blackface an Strat Specials, both are awesome clean and under gain. Some other neck PUP's I'm using are PAF Pro, Duncan '59, Duncan Jazz, and Alnico II Pro. All are excellent with the Mark V, but I have lots of extra love for the PAF Pro! It's one of my faves of all time. I hate active pickups, but that is just one man's opinion.

Super Distortion/PAF Pro = One of the best combination ever! Screaming leads and huge palm mutes! Leads with the PAF Pro are like butta!

I just got my guitar home with the Super Distortion and PAF pro. The gain on the SD is massive. I recommend anyone bitching about their amp not being good for metal to install one of these pickups... I ran it through my Peavey 65Watt solid state which I have never got a good straight in (no pedal) distorted sound and it pushed it into high gain territory. I can't farking wait to hear this with the MKV. I also used it with a Electro Harmonix metal muff and it was chunk-tastic. Pity I have to wait another month till my mesa arrives. The PAF is smooth and creamy as expected. Will be great for Satriani-esque legato runs.
