all I read is that it's great for leads and clean. but what about good ol' punk rock high gain no fuzz sounds? I don't do much lead work.
I use a les paul.

how does it compare to the mark III sounds? I am in the market for a mark III but I can trade my 2x12 for the studio pre.

thanks

For old punk rock I think you'll like it ! I own a Quad and the first channel is like a studio pre or mark IIC, and is perfect for that. The second channel of the quad is like a mark III, and is much plain, fat, but with less definition for my own.

It's pretty close, I've owned 3 MKIII's and 3 Studio Pre's, gotta run the EQ a little different on the SP too get where you want to go...
