Can someone please tell me what the different "stripe" Mark III's are. I just bought a Mark III and I have no idea what model it is, what year its from, etc. How can I tell the stripe and what is a stripe? Also, how or where can I get this head re-covered in tolex? Its pretty beat up. Thank people!

Do a search on this subject in the vintage amps forum and you will find a link to a site with the explanations of all the mark III versions.

Ok. I called Mesa and here's the deal. My Mark III was made in February of 1987. There is no stripe or dot above the power cable but there is a green colored capital letter R under the power cable. Even when I gave them the serial number Mesa couldn't tell me anything about the head. All they could say was that it was probably a "no stripe" very early version. I understand there were only a couple hundred of those ever made. Anyone have any better ideas?

The "R" indicates that it has the reverb mod (improves reverb).
