I dont undrstand why, but, I just dont like the tone out of my Mark III through a Marshall 1960A. Its muddy and loose, not the tight sound I was looking for. Anyone with this same cab have settings????

Volume = 7-8
Treble = 7 (Pull Shift works only in Lead mode, adds upper mid gain)
Bass = 2-3 (Or try Zero with Pull Shift)
Too much Bass, especially in Lead mode = Flubby mud, un-tightness.
Mid = 4-8

I've played my Mark III out of a Marshall cab a few times and It sounded fine; nice and tight.

Try pulling the volume, treble, and lead master. Also keep the bass knob low, about 0-2, then boost is with the GEQ to taste. Make sure the reverb is all the way off if you have it.

You might also just have old tubes perhaps?

In addition to what edgecrusher mentioned, try the middle at 4 max, but definitely take the bass down to about 1.5 and try keeping the EQ as:

EQ
80: Bottom of the square slider at the middle line (which creates a very slight boost)
2200: Top of the square slider at the middle line (which creates a very slight cut)
750: Bottom of the square slider slightly above the bottom line, like a hair above
2200: Top of the square slider 1/16" - 1/8" below the middle line
6600: Top of the square slider at the middle line (which creates a very slight cut)

I used to like everything pulled accept the bass, pulling the bass knob added huge flubbyness to my ears...I had a Blue Stripe head...

I used this when I was searching for an agressive markIII lead

Here you go brother the real deal:

Take note that on "Shortest Straw" they mention a "new Boogie" now during this time ('88) and with the number of knobs and pull options referenced they must be referring to the Mark III...

I like a really tight rhythm tone and a smooth, liquidy, creamy lead tone. Can you suggest to me some cabs????

My advise would be to, first, check this out here http://www.youtube.com/watch?gl=CA&hl=en&v=Mze7-zhkx-4 and follow his tips on how to live in up a Marshall 1960A cab. You may find it makes THE difference your looking for.

If it doesn't and you are still looking for a new cab, I would personally suggest a Mesa/Boogie "4x12 Stiletto Traditional Straight" as shown here: http://www.mesaboogie.com/Product_Info/Guitar%20Cabinets/StilettoCabs/Stiletto4x12TRst-LG.htm

I have an over sized recto cab (slant) and it sounds great, but from the reviews and research I've done online and from what my ears tell me I believe the recto's may be more suited to Nu Metal type tone, where as I look for a tone more like Hetfield's Justice tone...He used a Marshall straight 4X12 with V30's I figure this is as close but more than likely better quality as it's a Mesa! And based on the description on Mesa's site this cab sounds to be what your lookin for:

"STILETTO® TRADITIONAL cabinets are slightly smaller than our Rectifier® cabinets and produce a tighter, more balanced low end response with an emphasis on attack. The midrange is more pronounced and this cabinet is often preferred for styles that require a tight tracking, articulate response."

When they list this cab as being smaller, I beleive it's smaller in comparison to an over sized recto cab which makes it smaller yes but the same size as a traditional 4 X 12 like your 1960A so it's not really "smaller"...

Let us know what you decide post results.

I like this Lead-sound a lot with my III-simul black-dot, LP w/SD SH6 on bridge.
Its very chunky with nice fat tone and rich harmonics.
try out:

Volume: 6.5
Treble: 4.5
Bass: 1.5
Middle: 4.0
Master: 3.5 (pull)
Lead Drive: 7.0 (pull)
Lead Master: 5.5 (pull)
(presence: 4.5 )

The EQ:

maybe you have to tweek a little bit but its a good starting-point
for the tone you want.

Hey Tony, that's a really cool system you got going there. Very clever.
Not my design, but as you said very clever.
I was led to the link on this forum for some years ago, and kept it under my favorites.
Very useful, for instance, saving tweaks for recordings.
