Hi guys, I have a Mark IIc 60 watt head. I bought it from a friend a while back with a 1 x 12 Mesa cabinet. The cab came with some no name speaker in it, it has a small magnet and doesn't sound all that great. I've been playing on that for a while now but I have decided to upgrade the speaker. I started looking around on ebay at the EVM 12L's and I am starting to get confused. Firstly, I am seeing all different kinds of 12L's. There are the newer versions, like the EVM 12L classic and the EVM 12L Zack Wylde. The are the older versions (I think they're older?), like the EVM-12L Pro line. I am seeing all different types though. Some have weird looking backings on them-

Some have the traditional look

Some are 12S instead of 12L-

What's the difference?

Some have a blank back-

This one is mesa but has a pushed in dust cover-

Will that effect the sound a lot?

I just need some guidance on picking the right speaker. I also am big into cosmetics, I really want the EVM label on the back. They look really cool

Any help would be very appreciated

Joel

I'm also wondering about this but i would say for the stock mesa experience the classic reissue or the black and white label(not the zakk wylde but the series 2) one would be your best bet. but i would love to have more input.

The first speaker is a 300 watt 12L. Mesa used the 200 watt 12L, but I'm sure this would work. Here's the spec sheet: http://archives.telex.com/archives/EV/Speakers/EDS/EVM-12L Pro-line EDS.pdf

The second is a 12S. Again, Mesa used the 200 watt 12L. Here are the spec sheets for the 12L http://archives.telex.com/archives/EV/Speakers/EDS/EVM-12L EDS.pdf and 12S http://archives.telex.com/archives/EV/Speakers/EDS/EVM-12S Series II EDS.pdf. Pretty similar.

IIRC, the 12S was used more in PA's, but some used them for guitars.

Dust cover: I've heard it doesn't make a difference. I have one with a slight dimple and it sounds fine to me.

By the way, I have a 60 watt IIC with the original Eminence MS-12. I like this speaker so much that I bought another for a 1x12 cabinet. These used to be way cheaper than EVMs, but prices have been creeping into EVM territory. They are rarer than 12Ls too.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for all the input!

I am interested in the Mesa EVM 12L with the pushed in dust cover. It's not like anyone will notice it anyways. Now I can always recone it right? Or will that have an effect on the original sound?
