Back in late 80's, I was at Fenders Ballroom (Long Beach, CA) to see my buddy's cousin play with his band. That night, I think there were 5 bands playing. Everyone had Marshall full stacks. Headliner that night (Death Angel) had 2 or 3 of them. Yawn...

Just before Death Angel, a band called MX Machine came on. Guitar and Bass each had 1/2 stack rigs made by the Boogie Gawds. I was floored from the minute the first chord rang out. THAT WAS IT!!!

Those guys had raging tone. Then I heard the first bits of ...And Justice For All, and couldn't believe the low end gurg that Hetfield was putting out. There was NO WAY that was some old POS Mush-all amp. When I found out he was playing through a MB head with an EQ out the effects loop to really scoop everything to hell and back, I just about sold my little brother off to get me one.

There is NOTHING like a Mesa Boogie... Nothing...
