I got some work to do on a guy's amp and while I'm in there he wants colored LEDs shining behind his power tubes like ENGL amps do. Where to draw power from in the amp that is not in the signal path?

Without knowing what make/model of amp it is, I would say the Pilot lamp (6.3VAC) if there is one. You'll need to rectify to DC for the LEDs.

What kind of amp is it?

Crap yeah that would help wouldn't it. Its actually two amps in a stereo rig...a 3ch dual and a 6505. He made custom front grilles for both amps so you can see.through to the tubes.

Good place to start. This will give you a 5V regulated power supply drawing current from the 6.3V heater supplies.

This is for a switched 5V relay, but could easily be converted to just run LEDs.
