A heads-up for Australians needing transformer work - re-winds, new manufacture and also general circuit work. I've searched far and wide for someone I was happy with to work on my amp.

I've just had a mark III tranny made for 240v, and thoroughly recommend these guys.
Here's a few reasons why:
Multi-tap primaries to enable amp to accept international voltages? Sure, no problem.
Can U make a new transformer so I can keep the original in case I return the amp to original, but keep the original dimensions? Sure.
240v primary spec'd for our 50hz supply (as opposed to US 60hz)? Sure, no probs, but height will increase by about 4mm.
Same colour code primaries/secondaries as original ? Naturally. (I mention this as other suppliers baulked at this inquiry).

Install and thorough test ? Sure. (By thorough, I mean checking voltages right through amp, checking bias and power tube output and similar testing, rather than a quick check and then send it back).

I was really impressed with the interests they took in the amp. They were not Boogie specialists, but equally the main man has many decades experience in tube amps. He designed/built and modified amps for many Oz classic bands (remember Sherbet??), likewise with some leading Australian PA specialists.

He also looked at a Bassman TEN which was mid-conversion to 240v but shelved with time and technical problems. Fixed. And again, went through the amp to check all well, and fend off likely troubles before they occur.

They work out of Bungendore (near Canberra), are VERY competetively priced, and seem to truly love working on valve gear.
PM me for info, (in case I'm not allowed to list here).

Many thanks for sharing, always good to hear a recommendation.

For anyone in South East Queensland, Australia, I recommend BJ Amplifiers in Redbank, Brisbane. John has been looking after my Boogie for many years, wouldn't take it to anyone else. He also makes his own line of excellent valve guitar amps.
cheers, Bill

Another shout out for BJ. He's done all the work I've needed to various Fenders, Marshalls and Boogies I've loved and lost over the years.

McBarry: Bungendore? Who would have thought such a sweet little town would harbour an amp guru?

Yeah Podicle, was thinkin' the same thing..
The dad (Gill) retired and lives with his son (Scott), but just can't let the tools go..
Scott reckons when my Boogie came in, Gill dropped everything to look, peer, measure, explore.
Fair dinkum, sounds like he was like a kid in a lollyshop...

After talking with him, it was very clear he really is passionate about his craft - trannies, and almost makes light of his considerable past in valve electronics..

And the Bassman... it sounds like it took him about 3 millseconds to sort it, then tweaking, measuring, etc etc..without a god-awful bill though.

(Mods, remove if this shouldn't be here..)Scott's email is:

FWIW, I had a few emails with Dale Sherlock in Melb, but when I rang Gill and heard the interest and technical prowess in his voice/conversation, I looked no further.

Hope this is of help to others, Dave
