I was looking at videos on youtube the other day and found videos from Brian Wampler at indyguitarist.com (he's a really cool guy, gives away a lot of great information). Anyway, the video was cool, but what was REALLY cool was this website that was linked in the video: http://freeinfosociety.com/, in case no one knows about this site.
This website has a LOT of information in it, but I'm particularly interested in the schematics section. For instance this one: http://www.freeinfosociety.com/media.php?id=1896 . There are also schematics for amps, but I didn't want to post them due to this site being somewhat affiliated with an amp manufacturer. Just use the search engine on the site, and it'll get you to those schematics as well. After modd'ing my SD-1 using the instructions I paid for from monteallums, that got me interested in trying to do more than just a "paint by numbers"; for my personal tastes I would like to change the mods a little. Anyway, enjoy!

That's how I got started. I did a basic mod from Brian's specs on a few different items and liked the results. Brian's a great guy....his motives are in the right place and he's very helpful. Anyway, after that, I got more and more curious, so I brushed up on my electronics and started playing Dr. Frankenstein on various things. Now I'm at a point where I'd rather build my own from scratch than pay more money for someone else's preferences.

Another good resource is www.buildyourownclone.com. They have very solid kits of some of the most wanted and popular effects, especially OD's and distortions, with very understandable instructions, and the sound quality is boutique level.
