    Quad preamp- noisy reverb.

Sorry for digging up this old thread. It's in the forlorn hope that somebody might have solved this. I have a Quad which hums really badly with the reverb on. It's dead quiet without it.

    Quad - 220V and 230V versions?

I have 2 Quads, one I bought in the UK, the other I bought from Europe. The UK one has 230v on the back, the other has 220V. Does anybody know if there are actually different taps on the transfomer or are they actually the same?

Help me! New tubes for Mesa Quad and placements questions

7025, 12ax7 and ecc83 are all the same type of tube. I think the 7025s are low noise and so suitable for first stages. The tube functions are detailed here: http://www.freeinfosociety.com/electronics/schemview.php?id=290 You shouldn't have a problem with lack of distortion with any type of...

Looking for tech near West London

Thanks for the help but that is another tale of woe I'm afraid. I spoke to Westside 2 or 3 years ago when I needed some work done on my Mark IV. They gave me the details of Surrey Amps who were an authorized Boogie workshop. Unfortunately I had a bad experience with them too. The owner told me...

Looking for tech near West London

I just remembered to update this thread. Soon after getting the Quad back, I had EXACTLY the same issues. When I collected the amp, I had asked what they fixed as they didn't replace the LDRs (which I had supplied), Greg (the owner) was quite vague and said something like "changed a few...

Mark III sounds dramatically better after "warming up"

I think it's to do with a 'cold' bias too but it's quite normal. All amps (and their components) heat up as they are used. When the components in the bias circuit warm up, the idle current (bias) increases. When I adjust the bias in my Marshalls, I always bias on the cold side because I know the...

    Quad switching troubleshooting help

I've got a very similar sounding problem with my Quad: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xnsCuYdTIxQ Good luck and if you ever get it fixed, let me know how. I got round it by building my own footswitch that plugs into the external switching jacks!

    Quad preamp vid

It wasn't very loud, neither the preamp or poweramp volumes were very high. The presence was at 12 o'clock

Newbie Question on the Quad Preamp

I had a listen to a couple of his live songs (very good btw) and it does sound like a Boogie so the Quad would definitely get you very close or you could just get a MarkIV, personally I much prefer the Quad though :) Maybe what you're talking about is the change they made when they added the...

    Quad preamp vid

The Quad is officially up and running now so I made a quick video to celebrate! The playing is a bit shoddy at times (all the time?) but I'm really loving this thing, I've finally found the Boogie for me :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hzl9fg29ypo

    Mark IIC Standard Question

I'm wondering, what does the pull pot do? Does it give a gain boost or the bass boost of a normal pull deep?

Mark IV + Marshall power amp EL34 ?

It will give you more 'Marshall mids'. I really recommend a cab with greenback (G12M) speakers - this will give you lots of classic rock mids. If you can get a Marshall PA too, even better.

Mark IV + Marshall power amp EL34 ?

I used my old MarkIV into a JMC900, it was great. Now I have a Quad preamp into a Marshall 9100 and it's even better! For me, Mesa preamp into Marshall poweramp is the ultimate setup. I highly recommend it! As for cabs, I think a greenback loaded Marshall cab would be an excellent option.

Quad Guitar Preamp: Can I get Metallica/Lamb of God Sounds?

Sorry for the story here but.... Several years ago I was looking for that MOP era tone, living over in the UK, the choice of Boogies isn't as big as in the US. I bought a Mark IV but just couldn't get a good sound out of it apart from the cleans. People always say that Boogies aren't plug and...

Thanks for the tip Breenbear, I took the quad to them, they fixed it and it only cost £40. I was very pleased with their service.

    Quad problems

OK so I've ordered replacement parts for the quad. I have ordered replacements for the 19 LDRs, all the electrolytic caps and the carbon composite resistors, some of which have drifted over 20% out of spect! Now I need to find a trustworthy tech to change out all this stuff near West London...

Mark IVB Power transformer for sale

I have a power transformer 561140 EIA606-337 for a Mark IVB that was removed when I coverted it to 230V. It's in perfect working order. It's not use to me so I don't want much for it - $60 ono but I am in the UK so postage to the States will probably cost a fair bit. I can take photos if you need.

    Quad problems

Here's a video I made to show the strangeness that goes on. None of the lights work on the footswitch and pressing the buttons down doesn't do anything either: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xnsCuYdTIxQ

    Quad problems

Sounds like we have pretty similar problems. I got the cable yesterday (thanks for your reply in the other thread) but it doesn't help. When I plugged it in, all the lights came on! Plugging/unplugging caused fairly random combinations of lights after that but the bottom line is that the FU2...
