What's the difference between a Road King I and Road King II

Yes, nobody would ever deliberately want the original Road King vs. the Road King II. The logo right on the face of the amp (under Dual Rectifier) says Road King II on it. And the foot controller says "King Controller II" (but separately says Dual Rectifier Road King without the II elsewhere...

Keep in mind I only wrote the CT624 review -- not the DC600 one, and all of our big guitar gear reviews involve the gear going before a panel of multiple senior editors for comments/feedback, so when an opinion is voiced -- particularly an extremely positive one -- we make sure that multiple...

Here's my formal review of the CT-624: http://musicplayers.com/reviews/guitars/2012/0412_CarvinCT624.php and the DC-600: http://musicplayers.com/reviews/guitars/2013/0913_Carvin_DC600.php Scott

    Carvin Guitars

Two of my senior editors at MusicPlayers.com have PRS guitars -- a Custom 24 and a Custom 22. I could have bought a PRS... I definitely prefer the CT624 to the Custom 24. There's just something I prefer about the way it feels to me, and I love that it's custom to my specs instead of the same...

TheMichaelAbe, Go for it... a CT6M rivals a PRS Custom 24, and to me feels better in every possible way. Here's mine: I also have a DC600 which is a perfect shred machine that is a cross between a Suhr Modern and Jackson Soloist.

    Ibanez JPM P1

Well, you're in Japan so I guess you'll pay a premium over USA prices. I'd pick up a cheap, used, made-in-Japan fender Strat to get comfortable with playing, tuning, and changing strings first. Or, watch some videos online about changing strings on an ibanez edge pro tremolo or Floyd rose trem.

    Ibanez JPM P1

That is too much for a P1. I'd pay $1500 for that one. Most desired tends to be the P2 with neon colored graphics and the super limited HAM90 model, but that one is worth over $3500. Anyway, these aren't learning guitars. They play like a dream when set up well, but a new guitarist will have a...

NGD! Black Limba Carvin. Yes you read that right.

It's a mistake to think the brand never "took off" as thousands of players can attest... their endorsees are among the best of the best players.

Something you might want to try... the Wilkinson tremolo... but then for under $100 install (or have installed) a Hipshot Tremsetter in the back of the guitar. It creates a VERY fixed return-to-zero position for floating trems and works great.

    Carvin Guitars

That's interesting. A typical Les Paul scale length is 24 3/4". The CT6m has a 25" scale length. Technically the neck should feel longer to you.

    Carvin Guitars

Carvin offers Wilkinson tremolos on many of the guitars. It's not double locking, but with sperzel locking tuners at the headstock, they do a very good job when it comes to tuning stability, and they have a softer feel that is more like a Kahler than the feel of a Floyd tremolo. You might want...

my book on building pro guitar rigs is out!

Hey Littleb, I'll tell you... at MusicPlayers.com we take product testing extremely seriously. In fact we're the only MI publication that takes a labs-based approach to testing music gear -- something I learned back when I was a senior technology analyst at Ziff-Davis/PC Week Magazine years...

my book on building pro guitar rigs is out!

There are guys in forums who will tell you that one brand of cable sounds better/is superior to the other. This is the stuff of folklore and legend. If two "custom" cables used the same mogami wire and neutrik ends, they might sound the same. But all these manufacturers use different wire in...

my book on building pro guitar rigs is out!

Very cool about the book -- thanks for the support! I wouldn't waste the effort on switching out George L for Lava, personally. Both are excellent choices, and swapping out one set of custom wires for another is going to make such a small difference that you may be the only person who hears the...

Very sweet indeed! I have a custom CT624 on order right now... really looking forward to it.

    Scala Guitars

These are killer guitars. For those of you who don't know, Leo Scala is the master builder for the Gary Kramer Guitars USA custom shop in Los Angeles. He just launched his own signature line, and the guitars are very sweet -- I got to play them at NAMM. While we haven't done a formal review yet...

    Carvin Guitars

I have only praise for Carvin guitars. They build fantastic instruments at great prices. But I too, haven't loved their pickups. That is the easiest thing to change, though, if you're not satisfied with their pickups. The build quality, finishes, hardware... all top flight stuff. Scott
