    Footswitch for Mark III

I have the one on the left. It's for DCs, Calibers, and also the Maverick, I believe. It works just fine with my Mark III, and has for years. It's still just a footswitch. However, the light lies to you: it's lit when you're on rhythm and off when you're on the lead channel. "Fixing" it would...

    just for fun..."Highway Star" (MKIIb)

That sounds great! Most times when I hear someone cover that song, they use waaaay too much gain on the guitars and it basically turns into a Metallica song, which isn't all bad, but I love that slightly dirty chug you pulled off. Good job with the vox too; that isn't easy! Also, SLC represent...

    new cab day?

Open back/half back cabs with C90s are a natural fit for the Mark IV. Hell, my first Mark IV was a widebody combo that was open back and had the C90. The only application where I'd say you definitely want to go closed back is the classic Metallica/early Dream Theater sound. Otherwise that half...

WTT: Mesa Mark Rackmount for Mesa Headshell

Testing the waters... :P Really don't want to pay Mesa $350... :| I have: :: Mesa rackmount kit. Currently houses my Mark III, but will fit any Mark series short head through the Mark IV. Includes OEM reverb tank, does not include fan. :: SKB 4 space rack. The flagship SKB line, full...

Digging this new setting on my Mark III

With the Bass control on 4, pulled, my Mark III would be mud city on the lead channel. :|

    Drool. :(

    mark III settings

The only thing I really change is the middle slider of my GEQ: the louder I'm playing, the less pronounced a "V" I use.

    Sustain on Mark III?

I use EL34s in the outer sockets. I've tried all 6L6s, and I think the sounds are about 90% similar either way when running in Simul-Class, but the EL34s give me just a little more...something.

    Nova Drive???

I don't have a Nova Drive, but it's the exact same circuit as my Nova System (I just checked TC's website to make sure that's true). And in that case, I can tell you that if you use those drives as the primary source of gain, going into a clean amp, they're...good but not great. Used in front of...

    Triple Rec: Is this normal?

I'd start by replacing preamp tubes.

    Mark III sound clips

Here are a couple of tracks from my band's recently released EP. If you want to isolate the Mark III, I'm panned pretty hard right and my co-guitarist's Fryette 100/CL is in the left. Mountain Shiny Things

    Sustain on Mark III?

Here's an example! The rhythm tracks are my Mark III in Simul-Class mode (right speaker) and my co-guitarist's Fryette 100/CL (left speaker). When the breakdown comes after the second verse (1:43 if you're that impatient), those long, singing notes and noodles are me - same gain and EQ settings...

Rewiring a Mark III's outside sockets from triode to pentode

Bump...just in case all the knowledgeable people missed it the first time around.

    Brighter speaker?

Preamp tube swaps tend to be subtle differences. A speaker swap is a much more noticeable change, but again...the Ceramic Blue is a pretty bright speaker already, to my ears at least.

    Brighter speaker?

For preamp tubes, I find Sovteks, Tung-Sol reissues, and 9th Gen Chinese to be on the brighter side. I find JJs to be on the darker side.
