Hello, I just got a Mesa Boogie Studio Pre.
I do not know if it has been modded.
Is there a way to tell?
Can anyone recommend some place to have the mods done?
Thanks, Chris

I would only trust Mesa Boogie in Petaluma, CA.

Before you send it out for mods, the tubes make a huge difference in tone and gain. I also found that if I want to take it into modern metal, I run it through my BBE 822A to act as a Presence control with added tightening of the bass response. Your choice of power amp will color your tone also. My boogie 50/50 and Strategy 400 power amps sound very different with the 50/50 much more grainy and brighter whereas the 400 doesn't color the tone at all and has clean headroom for days.

The studio pre amp and 50/50 work together really well even without the BBE. With the proper tubes, mine had sovtek 12ax7wxt in it, they were so much better than anything else. Plus, it's really easy to change tubes.
