Hi,
I have a fillmore 25 for over a year now.
During playing, it suddenly becomes VERY quiet, like a 90% or more drop in sound volume.
If I switch it off and wait, or sometimes switch to stand by, it may return back to normal volume.
Then it may return again…
Sometimes it may return after a while (a couple of minutes) even if it is still switched on
I looked at the 6v6 tubes and they are working during the 'volume down time'.
Any ideas?

A visual check of the tubes won't tell you much about their condition, unless they're physically broken or lost vacuum.

I'd start by cleaning the FX loop jacks with electrical cleaner. After that, I'd suspect a tube.

There's a diagnostics section in the manual that my be helpful.

The Fillmore 25 takes 6V6 power tubes.

Don't rule out a preamp tube, either. Power tubes will usually show out in a physical way, preamp tubes may not.

Don, thank you so much, I cleaned the FX loop jacks with electrical cleaner, as you suggested, and it solved the issue!!!

Interesting. I think I’ll clean my FX loop jacks as well, just as a precaution. Easy enough to do and can’t hurt!
