For those Mark 5 25 or 35 owners, how do you get a usable perfectly clean tone?

Fat mode sounds the best, but when I turn the gain down the volume drops a lot as well. Obviously when I turn up the gain... I get more gain.

Wondering what you guys use for settings to get there? Trying to play Metallica clean tones (a la "One", etc.) through a Boss CE-2W chorus pedal. Sounds good (besides my playing), but there's a raspiness that I'd like to get rid of.

Top answer becomes my new best friend.

Cheers!

Maybe try rolling off the guitar volume knob a skosh?

I do find I have to turn the Master on the Mark V:25 pretty high, like above 12 o’clock, when playing crystal-clean.
