I'm curious about the 6L6GC STR 454 tube series. I came into a set along with the amp and they sound really nice, much more full than the Electro Harmonix 6L6EH that came with the F-50. Not that the 6L6EH don't sound good, they do, I just like the STR 454 for the sound I'm looking for. I talked with Mesa and they told me those weren't the tubes that came with the F-50 and they don't have any but they're available elsewhere.

I'm curious, what amps did these come with and why are they no longer sold by Mesa?

Is there an older tube they are similar to?

Thanks!

The 454 was Mesa's branded version of the very high quality Svetlana 6L6GC.

Svetlana became "Winged C" brand became SED. The factory closed in 2014. Unfortunately.

As I understand it, the Svetlana 6L6GC was designed to follow in the footsteps of the almighty Sylvania/Philips/ECG STR415.

These tubes are rare and command a stiff price for NOS examples.

Today I'd probably get Tung-Sol 7581As if clean headroom is your thing. They'll manage 35 watts clean per tube as compared to 25 for the STR 415.
