Is the Mark V the last of the Mark series?

Rectifier tube, yes, but you can hardly say the Mark V sounds anything like a Rectifier amp, at least in my experience. Extreme mode should've been called "Badass".

    Mesa through a Marshall

There's something about the EL34s that I love. Some of my favorite tones are classic Marshall, so maybe that's why I lean that way. I was never content with my tone when I used 6L6s, though I had a Triaxis/395 at the time. And there doesn't seem to be a classic Mesa speaker. Marshall had the...

Ch 2 low volume.. What tube drives it?

I'm 99% sure my channel 2's volume is low. The tone seems ok, but I'm running the channel master higher than what I remember. Is there a specific tube that drives channel 2 that would only affect the volume and seemingly not the gain? Anyone else experience this and resolved it? Thx.

Best speakers for non-metal Mark V tones?

I have Scumback M75s in a 4x12. Love 'em. Pretty much nail the classic british tone, at least as far as the MKV will let you. AC/DC all day and good cleans which I was very happy with. I love the combination of a big piece of the Marshall tone with the Mark V. They are pricey so I had to feel...

    MKV head speakers......

I have Scumback M75s and they are the best speakers I've ever played through. Total British. I've also had 2 of the original Boogie Thieles with EVMs. I never got to the "that's the tone I've been looking for" moment with them. I'm a traditionalist.

EQ on Channels 2 and 3

I've had problems with my EQ not engaging correctly and every time it's because the footswitch cable isn't firmly seated into the jack on the amp. Good luck.

    NGD! What cab...please help

I'd check out speakers rather than cabs. But then its a whole new ballgame when you're A/B-ing speakers. For classic rock, I'd go with Greenback type speakers. I use Scumbacks and love 'em, but I was being picky when I bought them. Look at Eminence.

Mark V with 6CA7 or EL34? Any opinions if you tried them

I use a version of the EL34 from JJ, the E34L. I like the EL34 sound a lot, but when I switched, I didn't hear as big a difference with the Mark 5 as I had with other amps. I don't think you will get much high frequency attenuation by switching power tubes. I play guitars with low output...

What tones can you NOT get from a Mark V?

I use EL34s. I think in Ch2 Crunch I'm in British territory. But I also use a different cab and speakers from most guys on here and I also use lower output pickups. Maybe I'm actually in retro territory rather than British, but I can play some classic Priest and it's very believable. I have...

    Mark V vs. Triaxis/2:90

The Triaxis is no more processed than the Mark 5. I've owned both, and loved them. I like my Mark 5 head because it is what it is. With all the options, you still only get 3 sounds, therefore reducing the urge to tweak and save new sounds, over and over. Knobs are better for live use, and with...

My journey to the "mark" side

I prefer EL34s. I use JJ, actually a version called the E34L. Its somewhat bigger in the bottom. Nothing to OCD over. I required my Boogie dealer to include a set if I was going to buy the amp. I'm an old school tone guy. I go for British leaning tones. I use greenback-type speakers and low...

    Mark I saturation?

Well if you have a good sound on crunch and you switch to Mark I, it will sound TOTALLY different and unusable. Very bass heavy and yes, the gain on Mark I is quite high. From memory, here it what I suggest: Turn off graphic or preset EQ. Just start with channel EQ. Mark I Thick switch to OFF...

Mark V amp hum, hiss and crackling noise in 3rd channel?!?

Well, man, I have no way of telling if these noises you're hearing are the same ones I've been hearing from Mesa amps since 1989. I do know that a Mesa amp is not going to be "dead silent". My amp crackles and pops without an instrument plugged in. Yours may be worse. I am merely trying to...

Mark V amp hum, hiss and crackling noise in 3rd channel?!?

    Well, clearly, you're having problems.

Mark V amp hum, hiss and crackling noise in 3rd channel?!?

Exactly how bad is the noise? Is it constant? Does it interfere with your guitar's sound when playing? I've NEVER had a "dead silent" high gain tube amp. At least not without the help from a noise gate. Tubes are a very cantankerous, old technology. Because it's only in channel 3, I'd rule out...

    EL-34's VS. 6L6

I use 34s, actually E34Ls, which are a slight variation made by JJ. I switched from 6L6s years ago, basically doing a total flip flop from what I had been using all around, gear-wise. While it isn't night and day, it is noticeable. 6l6s get a more rounded top end and a tighter low end, you'll...

What cab and speaker combo for classic rock w/Mark V

I use Scumback M75s. Essentially Greenbacks. THE classic rock sound. AC/DC, Aerosmith, ZZ Top, Thin Lizzy; etc. I also use EL-34 type tubes. I'd go with a 2x12 over a pair of 1x12s. Bigger box, bigger boom. Speaker comparisons are tough. Good luck!

    questions¿¿¿

EQ questions are difficult to answer. Depends on many factors, pickups, speakers, which mode you're using, the type of music you play, your taste in tone. I recommend getting the best tone you can without the EQ, then kick in the EQ while flat. Then, work to a V-shape. No one says you have to...

NAD! Mesa MARK V (pic inside)

That plexi would look nice sitting atop a 4x12 from Stone Age Cabs. Give John Wheeler a call. I mean, since you're buying top notch gear, you need the best cabinet made, right?
