    Mark V:35 Review and thoughts

I'm glad most like the V:35. I recently returned mine. Channel One was great (Crunch mode was killer!). Channel Two left me disappointed. The Mark IIC+ mode sounded good. The Mark IV mode sounded similar, but more "open." But when I switched to Xtreme mode, it seemed to lose its intensity. The...

Express "non-plus models" vs the + models

Several years ago, I demoed a 5:25 "non-plus" version, and thought it sounded great. I recently bought a 5:25+, and it doesn't seem to have as much "grind" to it on the Burn mode. I read today (Mark V manual) the early "non-EQ" IIC+'s "had a certain attack and purity to the sound that the amps...

    Reverb.com IS NOT TRUSTWORTHY!

I've bought and sold about 30 items on Reverb, and have never had a problem. Other music-related forums I belong to like Reverb better than Ebay.

Sounds like the "tech" did something wrong. It's not hard to do--it's just a pot swap!

    MEAVY METAL "Cello Sonata"

That sounds (no pun intended) cool! Reminds me of Alex Skolnick, who puts a jazz spin on classic rock/metal songs.

Black Shadow (Celestion), China or England made?

A lot of people, including me. If it says "made in China" on it, then I won't buy it, unless it's not available from anywhere else.

    Which Les Paul?

I highly recommend you try a Heritage H150 or H157. Better woods, better construction, better sounding, & better price than a comparable Gibson. And, you can order it with practically any option you want! For more info, visit the Heritage Owners Club at http://www.heritageownersclub.com/forums/

Lone Star Reeder Mod #1: Channel 2 Pot-Swap

I just did the mod last weekend. Before, it sounded like the speaker had the proverbial wet blanket over it. After the mod, it sounds cleaner and brighter; not nearly as muddy as it was before. It was easy to do as well. If you know how to solder, then it's a piece of cake.

    LSS through years

As far as I know, the LSSes with serial numbers below ~4000 had "problems" with the recifier tube blowing frequently. That was fixed in the later models (serial numbers > ~4000). There is a mod to fix the recifier tube problem. I've read that the older NOS 5Y3 tubes are more stable than the...

Weber Copper Cap Replacement for 5Y3GT Rectifier Tube in LSS

OK, I figured it out last night. They are immediately adjacent to the middle ribbon cable, one on each side. Each one is a 470-ohm resistor, in parallel with a 100-ohm resistor. Each resistor pair value is about 82.5 ohms; pulling the 470-ohm resistor brings it up to 100-ohms, effectively...

    Is my neck warped?

That is why I, as well as many others, prefer Heritage and G&L over Gibson and Fender. Better quality, better price.

Weber Copper Cap Replacement for 5Y3GT Rectifier Tube in LSS

I meant to say in my previous post that I couldn't find the correct resistors. It's kind of hard to tell which resistor is which, since they are laying directly on the circuit board, covering up their respective desingations. Oh, and I've been an electronics technician for > 20 years, and also...

    Lollar Pickups

I've got Lollar P90s in my Heritage H150. An excellent pickup! Smooth, creamy, and can get nasty if desired.

    Gibson explorer e2

I used to have its cousin, a 1980 V2. It looked bad-***, but it didn't sound that well. It also had very shallow frets.

Gibson was not the only company making nice Les Pauls

Here's one I used to own: H150CM LW (light weight = chambered)
