    Eventide Eclipse in Live Rack

Great comments on the gear guys, thanks! less = less..nice!!! I can totally relate! I've ran multiple amp rigs in the past but always in the back of my mind, (for what I wanted to hear at least) I always found myself kickin' in the boogies when it really mattered most. Recently I've thought...

    Triaxis used or new?

First off, Mesa has amazing customer service so you will always be taken care of. I have two Tri's and in the many many years I have had them I have only had one issue. If I were to get another Tri, I would get the v.2 with the original recto circuit. I have one with the fat mod also. I favor...

    Quad modifications

It's a good question. I love IEC cables, but I would not mess with anything on my Quad. Forget collectors...who would sell one? I retired mine to the studio but still use it from time to time. Get some good cable wraps, and preform some clean cable management. It is cheaper, you cant break it...

    Questions about Triaxis

1- All modes sound like boogies, but there are subtle differences, or there should be if your Tri is running correctly. As an example, the LD1 Red (recto) should not sound like the LD2 circuit. 2- go to the manual and look up the section that talks about overwriting factory defaults. Normally...

Triaxis and Lexicon MPX G2 setup question

First off the Lex is a wonderful piece of gear and I am confident you will absolutely love it no matter how you run it. I wish you many years of happy tweaking! That being said...if you want to use it how it was meant to be used, you are correct...run into the dynamics side of the Lex first...

    Mark V vs. Triaxis/2:90

Buy to MK V just because! Stick with the Tri/2:90 rig for versatility

    Recommend mics

Nice post and good information, but remember the phase issues that can happen if the mics are not extremely close to each other. I've seen and talked to people that literally tape two mics together, side by side to avoid this phenomenon. Or, you might dig the out of phase sound too!

    Roadster combo Mic'ing ideas

The Royer can handle about 135db @ 20Hz. Although it sounds "cool" to play at that volume, trust me, you don't want to be that loud on a stage unless it is massive. In terms of the stability of Ribbon mics...yeah they are sensitive. The 121's come in a velvet pouch that sits nicely inside a...

Thanks for your Kind Words Lith! I hope my ramblings help the guy out in the end.

microphone placement when recording your cabinet

I know the 57 and Beta 57 are the "standard" for guitar cabs for many years. However, I have to be the only idiot in all of “guitardom”who never liked the sound of a 57 on a cab. For my taste, the highs always ripped my face off, or if not too bright, it would be too muddy and not tight and...

    Roadster combo Mic'ing ideas

LET THE PA SYSTEM DO THE WORK IT WAS DESIGNED FOR - GET SOME MICS BUT BE CAREFUL The idea here is to lower your stage volume for a few reasons: A) In a smaller rehearsal venue, getting too loud smears out the sound and after a few songs everything sound indistinguishable and muddy, you start...

    Fellow Rush Freaks?

I'm definitely a Rush addict. Did you see that Lifeson is using the Mark V for his clean sounds on tour now! Hold the Red Star proudly high in hand!

What album are you listening to?

Recently I've been listening to the Flying Colors CD- this is a supergroup with Steve Morse. I've also been listening to AB III by Alterbridge.

    Recommend mics

I recently commented on vocal mics in another post, but I think I'd say the same thing here. The mics you are looking at sell roughly for about $400 or so. That's a pretty good place to start for vocals, but you should NEVER skimp on a vocal mic, especially if you do not want to do too much...

Vocal mic options for my makeshift studio

If you could spend more money, I would be on the hunt for a used Neumann TLM 103. Brand new they are about $1,100, so maybe you could find one for a little less. Trust me, you don't want to skimp on a vocal mic for any recording you actually care about! :D This particular mic also sounds...

    Eventide Eclipse in Live Rack

Hi Folks out there in Tone Land! I've had the pleasure of owning an Eventide Eclipse for about 3 years now. However, it was pretty much used in the studio and never saw the "light of stage"...I never integrated it into my live "A" rig which is primarily a Tri/2:90 with a recto 4x12. Being that...

    What's your recording setup?

Before I start, I need to say that the music played is heavy modern rock with a little commercial twist. Think Tool and Dream Theater meet the Foo Fighters! We like to be complex and heavy, but we like it when most people (not just musicians) can relate to what we are trying to express...there...

What rack cases do you guys use?

I searched high and low for a Boogie SUS-4 rack case. I finally found an 8 space and I was ridiculously happy to buy it used. It was in pretty good condition too. The shock mount system is spot on and the casters they used are pretty smooth. Obviously, when Mesa does anything it's usually top...
