    LSC Tube Retainers?

Does anyone else have a problem with their tubes getting crooked and almost falling out when the move it from home to gig and back? Mine always seem to get knocked about (LSC, 23" Head) since there is not much room at all in the back. I think the power chord knocks them about. Anyway, does...

Able to get Zep/Aerosmith tones from LSS?

I switched my tubes to EL34's some time ago after buying a wicked sounding Les Paul and couldn't be happier with the soudn of EL34's in this with my Les Paul. I plug straight into the amp, no need for pedals at all anymore and can nail the Jimmy Page tone. I can get spot on tone from the...

Dumb question from a Lonestar newbie -loading power tube

You might also want to try putting a delay or something in the loop and turning the send down. It acts almost like an overall master volume. I use it a lot when playing at home to maintain my stage tone at less then ear shattering volume.

EL 34's in my Lone Star Classic

I should add that for the most part, none of my settings on the amp changed at all, except of course for the bias selector on the back (!). In channel two I have the gain and drive around 2:00, Treble around noon (which is a bit higher then with my Strat, which is bright with a maple neck) Mids...

EL 34's in my Lone Star Classic

So I've been playing my Lone Star Classic with a Strat for some time now. Great Andy Timmons tones with my Road Worn loaded with a ToneZone in the bridge and two Cruisers in the neck and middle. Awesome tone all day long. Then I found a stunning '58 Les Paul (reissue, not a real '58, come on)...

Can it really keep getting better?!? Bedroom volume too!?

Wow, this LSC I have just keeps getting better. Not only has it become my go to exclusive gigging amp ( with more compliments on my tone and playing then ever before or imagined), I just discovered how to get real bedroom volume, even with the 100w setting! I was just wrapping up a previous...

    LSC for home use

Yeah, I own the 23'' head and it's definitely worth the wait. It's easier to pack up to gigs, and somewhat lighter. Although light is relative, it's still a beast. I don't think you have to worry too much about the "darkness" issue either. The Treble's never past noon on my LSC when I play...

    LSC 4x10 ?

I own both, a vintage 1966 Fender Super Reverb and a 1x12 Mesa LSC. My Mesa however is a small box head (10/50/100) and I opted for the ported 1x12 Roadster cabinet (same size as the 2x12 but with only one 12" V30 Celestion) for portability. The Fender Super Reverb is a heavy beast, but I'd...

Adjustable Bias Mod Kit First Impressions

Dave, I'd like to see your AT Clone when your done. Post something on it. I just finished (well, close anyway it plays now) a AT clone on my strat too. Really it's just a nice Road Worn body with an Yngwie neck (big fan of scallops) and a Tone Zone humbucker. It was getting good AT tone, but not...

    LSS vs. Fender Hot Rod

Well, first a really big question. Was this the new Hot Rod III? The latest offering from Fender in the Hot Rod series is an entirely different beast compared to the previous generation, especially in the drive channel. Fender finally fixed the drive to warm it up and make it useable. I played...

Finally getting REALLY good (AT) tone from my LSC

OK, after doing the bias mod, it definitely sounded better. Much fuller and more open now, and getting to a sweet spot sooner, but it still wasn't getting awe-inspiring tone and certainly wasn't sounding much like Andy Timmons' tone at all. I was getting really frustrated because I'm running the...

Adjustable Bias Mod Kit First Impressions

Shawn, I PM'd you too, but to answer your question so anyone else knows, yes, my Lone Star is a 10/50/100 unit. Small box head.

Adjustable Bias Mod Kit First Impressions

Yeah, you can get a spark when discharging the caps this way, but the chassis is ground. As long as you're insulated from the lead (it's insulation) you can safely discharge the caps this way. You can't get electrocuted by the chassis after you've discharged the voltage into it (assuming you're...

Adjustable Bias Mod Kit First Impressions

So I just installed my Mansfield Guitars adjustable bias kit. First I have to say it was a pretty easy install all things considered. I didn't worry too much about whether or not I could do it, I've been doing mods on vintage amps with point to point tag boards ('66 Super Reverb, etc) for a...

LSC Bias set OEM at 23 on my Lone Star Classic?!?!

Thanks Charles, awesome and quick response like always! I'm going to see if I like it once the mod is installed, then maybe try your mods too.

LSC Bias set OEM at 23 on my Lone Star Classic?!?!

All, I purchased the bias mod kit from Mansfield Guitars and I wanted to see what the OEM setting was, so I plugged in my bias probe and fired up my amp. It's reading 22.9 to 23 ma on my DMM. Can that be right? I mean, that's like half of where you guys are recommending it be at, in the 40s or...

    Lone Star Drive flabby

Wow, these amps are tricky. I had the Loop send all the way off. I think I do like it without the loop at all, but the solo function is nice (although I can accomplish the same thing with my volume knob) and with the loop up to the + sign or all the way it sounds great again. I think the + sign...

    Lone Star Drive flabby

OK, I think I just figured out a major tone secret on this beast. Everything I was complimenting before I thought was a result of my replacing the tubes with Old Stock GE's and changing my approach to the Drive/Gain relationship. Somehow when changing the tubes I must have hit the "Loop In/...
