Input needed - speakers mix question - Roadster head

I have two of them. They're absolutely incredible for heavy stuff.

    Mini RECTO CLIPS!

Incredibly valid. I'm all for this too. Modelers have gotten a lot better in recent years. A lot of people are opposed to them because either (1) it's NOT TUOOB OMG or (2) old modelers left a bad taste in their mouth. I generally don't care for people that consider (1) a problem, and people that...

    Preamp Tube Help Please!

You'll be fine - a standard 12AX7 is really like two tubes in one bottle.

Celestion Vintage 30 vs. WGS Veteran 30 (Video)

If that's what you're after I'd recommend also trying the G12K-100 - it's like a G12T-75 that's less scooped and easier on the top end. To give you a bit of an idea of what kind of sound it is, it is the speaker of choice of Mick Thompson.

Celestion Vintage 30 vs. WGS Veteran 30 (Video)

Ya, that might be something you want to try (two WGS/Celestions or two V30/C90), so you're not at one extreme or the other, you know? In my Mills cab I run two G12K-100s and two V30s in an X pattern and it isn't upper-mid honky at all. I am also lucky enough to have a V30 loaded Mesa cab to...

Celestion Vintage 30 vs. WGS Veteran 30 (Video)

The Celestion wins for me too hands down. The WGS sounded kinda grainy/nasally and didn't have the punch or smoothness of the V30 - a direct result of the upper mid removal, IMO.

    What's a fair price on a Nomad 55 1x12

Sounds expensive to me - Nomads aren't exactly in high demand.

    Roadster vs MKIV

The Roadster has no lag in switching if you leave the reverb engaged the entire time.

Presence knob not adding any brightness on one channel

Would that require a multimeter? And do you know if replacing the pot myself would void my warranty? The closest authorized tech is 2 and a half hours away, and has a pretty slow turnaround time.

Presence knob not adding any brightness on one channel

My presence knob on my Road King II in channel 4 suddenly doesn't do anything in any mode. I can strike a chord and turn the knob from full left to full right and not hear a thing differently. There's no scratchy sound or anything if I turn the pot. i.e., it doesn't sound like a dirty pot. I...

    Roadster vs MKIV

The Roadster is a great amp for Killswitch Engage tones.. in fact, I'm pretty sure Killswitch used a Roadster boosted by a Maxon OD808 to record The End of Heartache. I think it pairs up great with a 6505+ also, but you and the other guitarist will have to work out your settings so you don't...

    Troubles with DR solo head.

Check the cable and clean all of the jacks. You can do that by spraying contact cleaner on the tip of a cable plug and inserting it and wiggling it around a bit.

Dialing in my Road King II?

When I used EMGs, I liked to run the gain pretty high (unboosted) - as high as 3:00 - with the bass up a bit too. This required a good bit of volume too (nothing TOO intense, about 9:00 on volume) to get things cooking. At low volumes it was pretty loose. Here are some settings I used with...

Anyone running 6v6's instead of 6L6 in single rec?

Do you play metal? I don't think 6v6s would do anything good for you in that case. Rectifiers love power amp headroom for high gain. Also, turning up the master won't get you much more sweat out of the power tubes - turning up the output knob will. Either way, don't worry too much about where...

Rectifier / Stiletto 2x12 vs Stiletto (Traditional) 4x12

You need a fancy switching system if you want to gig with it normally and plan to switch channels during a gig. If you don't have some kind of switching system then you can't switch channels on each amp simultaneously. If you're just going to noodle around with it at home, you'd be just fine by...

STEREO RIG! Also, +1 on Mills cabs

Maxon OD808 vs. Fullton OCD (The Video)

I know what you mean. I'd personally take the OCD (even though I just sold mine) because of how sturdy it's built - the OD808 feels like a paperweight by comparison. My current favorites are the Greenhouse Middleman (fearedse reviewed one) and the Xotic BB Preamp MB - a BB preamp with an added...

    no rectifier tubes...possible???

It probably is. If the tubes were old you should replace them all anyway.

Maxon OD808 vs. Fullton OCD (The Video)

Yeap, sounds good! IME the OD808 makes it tighter but the OCD makes it ballsier.

Tremoverb with 4x12 speaker pairing suggestions

Just a reminder, you need to be careful with G12H 30s and G12M 25s with a recto. A 4x12 will only be able to handle 120 watts with two G12H 30s and two V30s, and will only be able to handle 100 watts with two G12M 25s and two V30s. You run a significantly higher risk of blowing a speaker. To...
