    OT tranny?

How much difference will a Mercury output transformer make to a stock DC-5, esp if that is the only mod? How about on a Marshall DSL 50 (I know - not a Boogie)? Just curious... or do you need other mods to go with the transformer to really make any difference?

How does the Dual Caliber compare to a 5150/6505

People are going nuts for the 5150/6505 on other forums. Apparently they're cheap and sound good. How does a DC compare to that sound? I've never played a 5150 or any of it's variants.

Attentuators - I need the Cliff Notes version...

Since my last visit, I have replaced most of my preamp tubes and reversed the volume mod. My Boogie has its Cajones back! Now I just need to get a decent sounding attenuator. Any opinions? I would use the attenuator for my DC-5 and my Marshall DSL 50... I want the best possible sound and...

My DC-5 has its cajones back!

I recently had my DC-5 in for a service check up and, while the tech was looking things over, I had him resolder the resistor that I had snipped for the volume mod. The amp sounds like it used to again... touchy as hell, but I feel the earth move when I play! We also replaced 4 preamp...

    volume mod

Photo: i don't know where you live, but if you were close enough to me, I'd love for you to hear my DC-5 with the volume mod. I, personally, do not like it. Now I just need to find someone who is really good with a solder iron in a tight spot to put it back the way it was for me...

Amp issues... but this time a Marshall

Okay guys, I know this ain't the Marshall forum, but you guys really seem to know what you're talking about and there also seems to be a LOT of info out there - some good, some not-so-good. Here's the deal: I have a Marshall JCM 2000 DSL 50 from 1998 (IIRC). It has Drake (sp?) transformers...

    How does a DC-5 compare to a .50+ caliber?

For some reason, I find myself sort of jonesing for a .50+ caliber head to play around with. What is it like compare to my DC-5?

Where do you guys get your drum sounds?

When clips are posted here, they are almost always accompanied by drums. Assuming that not everyone here plays drums... where should one go to find drum patterns for song clips? Just FYI, I have Logic Express 8, but I haven't messed with it much yet. Anyway to get good drum sounds from that...

Mesa's take on the Dual Caliber series

The origin of the sound of the DC series is often disputed.... but here is an ad for the DC series from 1995. Aparently, the rhythm channel is derived from the Mark IV and the lead channel is from the recto. Check it out: http://www.grailtone.com/images/catalogs/catalog-1995-dcseries.jpg...

Hmmm... just did the volume mod on my DC 5

...and my rhythm channel sounds great. My lead channel, though, is noticeably more quite than the rhythm channel if the settings across the channels are the same. In other words, I need to turn my master rhythm channel down to about 3 in order to match my lead channel at 6. This is with the...

My official hello.. and some questions...

Hello all! I cannot believe I found a forum dedicated to the DC series. My was bought for me by my parents as a graduation present back in 1998 (degree in music education and the irony is that my main instrument is trombone, lol!). Here is my current rig: I had to fabricate the enclosure...

    Food for thought....

Or just look around for a used Marshall 1936 or a MESA 2x12 cab. Guitar Center and Music-Go-Round sometimes have these things (note: I really don't like Music-Go-Round. Always seems kinda seedy to me -like a perpetual garage sale with high prices). Then there's ebay and craigslist. If you...

Does anyone know where I can find the pictures?

Over on Gearslutz, Flemming Rasmussen joined a discussion about Metallica's work over at Sweet Silence studio. I am sure you guys are probably familiar with this (evidence of this is in the other thread)... but I cannot find the pictures that Flemming posted because his website is down. Also...

New member needs help with a DC-5

Hello everyone! Newbie here.... I am having a small, but irritating issue with my DC-5 ("B" series) widebody combo. When I turn the amp on, the blue light lights up.... but then as I play it flickers on and off and on and off. It is no big deal when I am just fiddling around at home and it...
