    Closing combo back... too hot?

Thanks for the response. I have a 4x12" Avatar cabinet with Vintage 30s that sounds incredible. I'm just looking for a solution for those situations where bringing anything more than just the combo is unrealistic, ie. small stages. I'm considering a somewhat more complex approach, where...

    Closing combo back... too hot?

I have a .50 Caliber Plus 1x12" combo, which has an open back. I'd like to experiment with making a cover to close up the cavity in the back of the amp to tighten up the low end for higher gain tones, ie. punk/metal. Should I be worried that doing so is going to starve the electronics of...

    .50 Cal+ FX Loop impedance?

From the Line 6 HX Stomp manual: "The effects loops on most amplifiers run at instrument level." That sounds wrong to me. Besides tonal shaping, the purpose of the preamp in a guitar amp is to take an instrument level signal and make it line level for the power amp, is it not? What is the...

    Boost in effect loop

You might want to consider an EQ pedal. Our perception of volume has as much to do with frequency content as sound pressure, hence the "proximity effect" of cardioid microphones. What I do is use an EQ pedal in the loop (or the GEQ of my .50 Cal+ on a footswitch if I'm not using it as part of...

Modification to move Graphic EQ and/or Reverb after Effects Return

I wanted to do that to my .50 Cal+. A friend of mine had a Line 6 Vetta Head that had a global EQ so you can tune the amp to different rooms a little bit, and I figured that if the .50 Cal EQ was after the FX RETURN, I could use it in the same way. I decided against it for a few different...

.50 Caliber Plus cut out momentarily, came back, then crackly sounds from the back/inside... Transformer looks "wet"...

My apologies. I guess I have to check my notification settings, because I was expecting to get an email if someone replied. So, as far as the loop jack is concerned, there actually is something plugged into the loop, since I use the amp in 4-Cable Method with a Line 6 Pod X3 Live. I will take...

.50 Caliber Plus cut out momentarily, came back, then crackly sounds from the back/inside... Transformer looks "wet"...

I bought it over 10 years ago from a guy who said he barely played it. Original "Coke Bottle" tubes... On one of them the glass envelope has separated from the base... No noticable issues from that so far... It just jiggles around back there without a problem so far but if I had to guess...

Seeking Advice - .50 Caliber+ Reverb Switch Mod

http://billmaudio.com/wp/?page_id=841 so on this page, the guy talks about adding a reverb switch to a Fender Blues Junior... I'm trying to figure out what he's done and apply the same thinking to my .50 Caliber+ so basically the thinking is to ground the output signal from the tank... on...

    extension/slave amp?

Hi there... quick question... I seem to recall a while back seeing a mesa boogie "extension" or "slave" amp on eBay... it was a 1x12 combo with no preamp or tone controls, just a volume and maybe a presence knob... it wasn't just a cabinet, it actually had a poweramp in it... I even want to...

    .50 cal 4 sale

no i think that's reasonable... i bought a plus off ebay for $650 about a year ago, and i thought it was a good deal... the no eq thing is a big deal to some people, because it's one of those uniquely boogie things, but keep it up there and it should sell... money's tight these days... just...

    Line6 HD POD anyone?

i have yet to try out the HDs or an axe fx (i really want an axe fx), but i'm a long time POD X3 user... as far as i can tell, the HD has improved in some areas, and kinda fell back in others... the main advantage i can see is that the HD has anything-to-anything routing (somewhat... not as...

    The secret to PURE tone...

in the past, when in a pinch, i've used pennies before, and i used to work at a rehearsal studio and some guy that was coming in was using picks he made out of old cymbals... he gave me a few, and they were pretty cool... they were great because they were nice and hard but they didn't have to...

EQ in front of amp or in effects loop

an EQ pedal before the amp is really useful if you like the amount of gain/sustain you're getting, but you lack some "bite" when palm muting... it's similar to an OD pedal in that respect, except you can really hit the frequencies that are going to give you that bite without increasing the gain...
