Taking a IIB into modern metal territory?

Good question, I've wondered this myself, and I have a Mesa Mark I Re-issue. My cleans are great, but the gain can be hard to dial in with both a SSH strat and a Firebird with vintage firebuckers. I did try a Rat with a les paul custom going through a Champ and that was great. Back in 1982...

    Mark 1 Reissue Question

I have a '90 reissue. Black Rolex, c90 People call it the Robben Ford Special. It can do metal. I run into a twin cabinet. It's got 60watt switch and tweed switch, so it goes down to 22 watts, more than enough!

    Mark 1 reissue

Still saving for my preamp tubes, but I have changed my power tubes, along with screen resistors that blew up when my amp fell 3.5 feet, I haven't changed out tubes in 7 years, though. I've just been playing at home, though. Did you know Chinese tube makers have re-issued an RCA blackplate...

    Mark IIb HELP!!!!

I think a matched pair of mesa-branded str 440 tubes will do fine, my boogie mark 1 reissue does fine with ordinary mesa tubes in the power section. no biasing required as long as long as you use mesa boogie 6l6 tubes or tubes from a boutique supplier like dougstubes.com or eurotubes.com...

take it back with receipts and a bad attitude! or take it out of the cabinet and use chop sticks to poke at the chassis co ponents at a safe distance if you hear noise then it might be that component you are poking at
