    Recording Amps with SM57

The Firebox won't come close to what the RNP will do for the SM57. I still use the Firebox for many things, but when ever I use my SM57, the RNP is definitely my go to box. The firebox just doesn't have enough gain (45db if I remember right) for those dynamics without making alot of noise. Don't...

    Mesa Boogie Strategy 500

Arguably one of the best power amps made, I've had mine since about '93 or so, still has the original tubes and works flawless. Mine has been through armageddon and back and has never had a single issue with it. If you have the opportunity to pick one up, I would recommend it. You could always...

looking for a good crunchy pedal

I would seriously look at Tone Freak pedals. They make killer OD/Distortions for any application.

    Boss NS-2 & MXR Phase 90

I agree. I bought a standard Phase90 off ebay, cheap, did the R28,C11 and C12 mods, and it's now a whole different pedal, and very musical too. I would do it again.

    Looking for nice studio monitors

The Yamaha HS80m's are great, IMO. I've been using them for a couple years now, and my mixes have translated well (to my ears). For the price, they're real nice IMO.

Chorus pedal: too many to pick 1

I recently picked up a DLS Chorus~Vib, and I've been real happy with it. Worth looking into IMO.

    Looking for a good shimmer.

When you say "shimmer", are you looking for reverb, chorus, maybe detune? A combination of either can produce a killer shimmer effect. There are a bunch of pedal or rack units that can produce a shimmer. Which are you looking for?

How much compressor can change clean tone?

IMO, if you want to use a comp for your guitar, I'd go with a pedal version over a rack mounted. Why? because in my experience (not that it has any significance) pedals are geared to instrumental applications. The rack units that I've used will do the job too, but are more subtle, and take a...

Moving, can't bring Road King, need software

I own Amplitube LE, which IMO is total crap. BUT I have been told the LE version doesn't compare the the later versions. That being said, I've "heard" many samples of Guitar Rig that are far superior to any Amplitube samples I've heard. So it I were to take a gamble, I'd go with GR.

alta conditions are incredible right now

****. I lived in SLC for 12 years ('88-2000), and never went skiing once. Even thought I don't like the snow, I wish I would have went at least once. Snowbird, Cottonwood, Parkcity.......

This is why metal rocks my world...

 That's as cheesy as cheese gets. But I can't talk crap, because that was me me back in the 80's-90's.

    Cleaning up your signal chain+necessities?

Why not get the best of both worlds, and use a pedal switcher that is true bypass and gives you the option to use either a buffered or non buffered input.

Anybody used a BBE Sonic Maximizer?

I have a BBE 322. Used it in my rig for years. Then a few years ago I took it out, and realized I was missing out on some good tone. I did like the tone I was getting with the BBE, despite all the crap I had to take for using it. But, I find my tones now to be more useful, and alive with out it...
