Definitely the EV12L in the thiele. I run mine that way with the MC90 in the combo and that's the ticket :D

Single coils are noisy! I run the exact same setup, gsp1101 and triaxis. I bought a G&L Legacy and couldn't stand how noisy it was. My solution was changing out the single coils for Bill Laurence noiseless pickups. That fixed it.

I like the BB preamp with my Mark III

I'm running my triaxis with a Matrix GT800fx. Also have a digitech gsp1101 in the rack wired in a 4-cable hook-up. digitech control2 on the floor does all the amp and effects switching. I never use the digitech preamps, just the triaxis. gsp1101 for effects and od's only. Very versatile rig...

Couldn't deal with the fat mod channel either so I reversed it. much, much better!! I would say just to do it you won't be sorry.

You could take the loop out of the Mark and run it into A side of an A/B switch and then take the quad out into the the B side of the switch, Then run the A/B back into the loop return. Could be done with a midi amp switching system also, which could be programmed to switch channels on the amps...

Well in that kind of heat, you're really just blowing hot air across the tubes. Better than no fan at all, but if the amp made it through, I would just wait and see how it works when it's in a cooler environment before assuming something is wrong with it. Is the amp working ok now?

I have quite a few nos tubes here and quite a few current production tubes here to try out. Seems I have changed tubes in my mark III more times than I care to imagine. Right now I am very happy with what I am running and I think the combination makes sense with this amp. This is what I'm using...

interesting! I just got ahold of an RCA 5751 blackplate and tried it in my mark III v1 yesterday. I really like it a whole lot, but I would think a 12at7 might be a little too much cut in gain. What brand did you use?

There are no "best" tubes. They all sound a little different depending on what amp you use them in. One tube might sound great in one amp and not so good in a different amp. I like the Ruby tubes Doug sells for my el34 and 6l6's. I'm a big fan of nos for pre-amp tubes so that's all I use but it...

Well if I had the burning smell I would not use the amp until I pulled it out and looked to see what burnt. Check you're grid resisitors, and the whole board for that matter.

Well there is no question, LD1 red is now much, much better. Before I didn't like it at all, it seemed way too different than all the other modes and just was not my cup of tea. Now it seems to fit in with the other modes much better. I will definitely be using LD1 red now. I'm 100% satisfied...

really hard for us to understand what tone you are going for. We all have that sound in our head we try to find. The way I see it your options include tube replacements, tone stack adjustments, speakers, and maybe even trowing an eq in the loop. I know my amp can sound and feel totally different...

you could try a 12at7 in the v5 spot. I prefer my blue stripe with a bit less gain also.

Just finished doing this mod tonight, plugged it in just to make sure everything is working. Seems good, will have to wait until tomorrow to really see if I like the change. I really didn't like the lead 1 red channel at all with the fat mod so I figured it's worth a try to see if I like it any...
