Judging by the 2 MkVs I've had it will hum a bit at 90W. Mine hums more when I have fx running in the loop. 45W ain't so bad and it should be quiet enough for home playing. Live you won't notice it. The only thing i Found that affected the hum, not by much tho, was swapping v1 pre- tubes.

Hi, I was wondering whether there would be any difference in tone between running an 8ohm cab through the 8 ohm cab or running the same a 4 ohm cab through the 4ohm tap. assume same speaker, 8ohm in first case (or 2x16ohm parallel) and 4ohm (or 2x8ohm parallel) for the latter. No mismatches...

Thanks, yeah I'm getting a clone, not the real one. I used one in the past and liked it; always on tone shaping type of pedal, not much boost or gain out of it. Just hadn't tried it with the MkV

I got the MV after playing a LSS and I stll think the LSS has more "magic" and is more relevant to what I naturally gravitate to as a player. The MV is my workhorse and I see it and treat it as such. What it gives is good enough for the job and by focusing on that and the tones it does well...

Hey Steve. I think mine is OK so far. Contact cleaner in the loop tube did the job. I didn't get any volume loss though..

That's interesting. What are the differences between 6CA7 and EL34s? Do Mesa make them or would I be voiding my warranty if I put them on? What bias setting do you run them at, el34?

Thank you jb's 52, I pulled the chassis and think I located the issue to the loop tube. Most likely smth with the contacts. Applied contact cleaner and so far it's been quiet. I didn't change wattage, kept all at 90W. Haven't given it a proper playthrough yet 'cause the neighbor underneath bangs...

swapped V1-3 and the PI to no avail.. off to the tech? As this happens in ch.1&2 I have ruled out the power stage. no arcing, strange glows, volume loss or smoke either.. anyone knows what do ch.1&2 share other than preamp tubes?
