Got a new Recto, it is the version before the switchable 50/100 watt model. It has MESA STR 430 which i believe are the Sovtek 6L6WXT.

I have older Marshall & bias my own amps but am a noob when it comes to MESA tubes.

I like the Tungsol 6L6. Does MESA make those or can i just buy a non-MESA matched quad for my Recto ?

Sure. The quad doesn't even have to be a four tube match. Just as long as each PAIR is matched. Inner pair matched, outer pair matched.

However, Mesa tubes are a reliably good choice. As good as any, maybe better.

I have a Compu-bias meter i hooked up. In tube Rec mode {spongy} the output was only about 3 watts with around 300 volts on the plates.
Diode Rectification was around 460 volts & 14 watts output which is still cold.

70% dissipation @ 460 volts was about 51ma, my tubes had 31ma.

Is that low plate voltage normal in Tube Rec mode ?

The schematic says 472 volts on the plates. Being just 10 volts off (diode rectifiers) is only about 2 percent under spec. I'd call that good.

You're running at 43 percent dissipation.

But the tube rectifier output...that seems rather low. Are they all running? All putting out even amounts of heat?

Yes they were all lit up. One pair of 6L6's was older than the other. IDK if that has anything to do with it.

I bought a matched quad of Tungsol 6L6GC STR's.

Well, I'm not going to do it tonight, but I have a pair of triple recto solo heads and I'll crack one (or both) of them open and meter out the voltage in tube rectifier mode and let you know what it is. (diode and tube voltages both.)

I customized the knobs on the lower unit. Mesa had them, but I had to turn each pot upside down for them to fit right.

Thanks man. Im a little leary of these Tungsol tubes not working out.

Hope all goes well.

-4db on the hot plate, tube rec setting, Bold switch on, very SLO-ish.

So got to hang out in Obeids Amp Dungeon this morn, he modded my MESA parallel loop to series, sounds soooo much better. All my effects sound the way theyre suppose to.

He had old Marshall & old Pre Rola cabs all over the place, in the amp Lab chassis's everywhere. I saw 2 of Richard Fortus' amps a Plexi Super PA 100 watt & a 50 watt Super Trem JMP being modded. Fortus is a member of GnR and lives here in town. It was totally cool. thanks to Mr. Khan !!!
