New (used) Mark V owner. This is amazing amp. Best amp I have ever owned.

Am finding a huge variety of tones in it and learning by trial and error and reading posts here.

I was wondering if anyone has suggestions on getting lower gain (Carlton) D style tone, and also the thicker higher gain ODS tone from the MARK V?

Appreciate any starting pointers you might have.

Here is example of the clean tone.

Just checking in.
Anybody have thoughts on this?

Thanks!

I assume Mark 1 mode would be the place to start. Since Carlton used that for so many years and the circuits are reportedly similar. (I don't have my Mark V yet, hopefully in a week.)

Thanks for the reply.

Yeah- I can seemingly get in the ballpark in the Mark 1, as well as Mark IIc modes for lower and then added gain.
My main point of reference is modeled Dumble amps in the AXE FX II.

As a newer Mark V owner the various ways the TMB and then EQ and the gain stages interact is still a learning curve for me.

hahaha your main point of ref is a modeled dumble in AXE-FX II and youtube videos.
and what's that - anyone heard it besides you?
does the modeled dumble in Axe-FX sound anything like a real dumble and if so - which dumble tone on which dumble amp?
How would anyone know?
Each Dumble is hand made and sounds different - most will have multiple tones.
Which Carlton tone? - Carlton used many tones on many CDs.
No youtube video is an accurate recording of anything.
You buy a $3000 Mesa tube amp hoping it will sound like something from a modeler and youtube videos - good luck

Having played a few Dumble ODS amps over the years (never a Bludotone, but I hear they are similar) and currently owning a Two Rock Emerald Pro (which is pretty Dumbley) I can tell you that it's a challenge to get that tone anywhere else (as you can probably imagine.)

I never had much luck with Mark I mode - it's not my thing and I don't really use it. Maybe you can get those tones out of it, but I can't.

I get closest with Tweed mode on channel 1. It cleans up beautifully with the gain lower (below 10:00) and has a bit more round mids which is something that sets the Dumble clean apart from a Fender blackface type of clean.

I've not really tried to get that type of overdrive tone out of my Mark V, but I've got a lot of hours on that amp getting other tones. If I had to nail the tone you posted, I'd use a pedal (Zendrive, Simble, Ethos) into the Tweed clean to get it probably.

Thanks for the info.
I have been actually messing around with the Tweed mode lately and am surprised at the versatility.
As for the D style OD sound, am experimenting with the Mark I and II modes at various settings.
May never quite get there but it is fun trying.
I got a few tips from an amp designer who like you has played Dumbles, and also has worked on Mark V amps a lot.
He suggested keeping Bass lower and working with the midrange.
