2 amps in one cab ( Not at the same time )

Hello and nice to find you ,

I own a mesa half stack ( Mesa 4x12 rectifier and a mesa dual rectifier ) and a peavey 6505+ . I want to plug both amps in the Mesa cab , in order to avoid all this procedure to take out the cab from its place and switching cables etc . and play the amps ONE BY ONE and not at the same time. Just to switch on the mesa , play with the mesa and after that , to switch off the mesa , switch on the peavey and play with the peavey. I mean when the one amp is on the other will be off. The mesa in 8 ohms and the peavey in 4 ohms with two cables of course in order to play it through all the 4 speakers of the cab . I wanted to ask if there is any problem with that connection. That is other product for this case... powering off still leaves the other amp's output transformer in circuit and if guesstimate is good enough this is not good thing. Others may have more qualified nonos...

It'll be safe with one off and one on. It's safe with both on going back and forth, too. It has a resistor inside to keep a load on the heads.

Let's be 100% clear....

If both amps are switched on (both powered on and Standby ON), then you need a proper head switcher such as the radial unit. The head that is not in use will need to see a load (speaker load or any resistor load) otherwise you run the risk of blowing the transformer.

If one amp is actually switch off (no power) then a good quality ABY switch pedal will do the job (for amp A and for amp B). Keep in mind, if you forget to switch the power off the head that is in use before hitting the ABY pedal, you run the risk of the head blowing the transformer. You can easily forget to power off the head or accidentally hit the ABY pedal.

For safe and 100% guarantee, buy a proper head switcher. It's cheap insurance for your equipment (for repair costs plus wait time for repair). It's no good having $2000 worth of gear and then find the cheapest way of connecting things later. It's like having $3000 worth of amp and guitar to only connect with $2 cables. Doesn't make sense.
