midi help with mark 3

Hi Guys,
I need some expert advice
I have a mark 3 combo and a tc electronic g major, im wondering is it possible to control the amps channel changes with patch changes on the g major via a midi foot controller ?
Id like to be able to do this but dont know how
Any advice would be most welcome

I could be wrong but I believe the G major has one relay switch built in, which would only be able to control one function. So you'll need something with MIDI-controllable relay switches, like a GCX (http://www.musiciansfriend.com/guitars/voodoo-lab-gcx-guitar-audio-switcher) or a RJM Amp Gizmo (http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/AmpGizmo).

And if you want advice for a specific make or model, I am a strong supporter of RJM

EDIT: I just looked it up, apparently it has 2 relays, so you could switch the channels but not the EQ and reverb. And TC units' switching relays have a reputation of not working well with most mesas, since they require isolated ground connections, which the TC's don't do, apparently. I'm not sure if that applies to older mesas, though, or just the newer ones.

I'm looking into getting the RG16 at the moment, which does FX switching as well as channel switching, but the figures stand true for all RJM gear purchased in the UK - it's really expensive!

For example, for the RG16, the US MSRP is $750 and street price is $650, whereas you're paying £725 (>$1100) in the UK for the same unit. As they all seem to run off a wall wart, you might be better off ordering one from the States, in which case even with a conservative shipping estimate of $75, you'll still be paying about £450 - nearly 300 quid less than the UK street price.

If you're just doing channel switching, maybe you want to look into the Mini Amp Gizmo, which is £189 (and might be cheaper still if you order from abroad).

The G Major has a TRS (Tip, Ring, Sleeve) relay jack on it. I use my G Major to control my MKIII with patch changes just like you describe. You can actually pick two functions to control with the G Major. You will need a TRS to Dual TS "Y" cable to make that work, like a standard Insert cable. When you set up your preset on the GM, simply set the relay states (open or closed) and save the preset. Works like a charm. You can even set up a standard momentary style switch to control one of those functions too, and not loose the ability to have the recall with your presets.
