Ok,

I've got it down to what I want in my PC.

I am deciding between 2 Interfaces, depending on how much crap I want to sell to buy it.

Now.....What monitors are good, but affordable? Under $300 or so for the pair.

It's funny how my projects always seem to expand in price. I start out with a $1,000 budget and end up spending twice as much.

i found this ones last year - nearfield monitor with a nice sweet spot, two amps in each box and teflon-speaker and LOUD - but still flat.

there are similar ones from M-audio but they miss the particular punch.

you should get them under 300$

Are you still happy with them after a year?

The reason I'm asking, is that I can only do this once.

I was planning on getting the Mackie Onyx Satellite, but opted to spend more and get the Mackie Onyx 1220 with firewire card. Everytime I get something that fits my budget, I end up regretting it and getting something better later.

I was recommended on another forum the KRK Rokit RP-5's and so I bought them about 6 months ago. They were $260 for the pair with a link I found on yahoo that I matched the price with zzounds on. I really like them though and I'm glad I bought them. I also heard that the Yamaha HSM's were nice too but I think they are over $300 for the pair.

happy? yes.

but they are not the only ones i use. I also own a pair of HR 824 some with tubeamps driven JBL control (quite old) and other ...

it depends which purpose you follow. I use the esi (and mackie) for mixing. its not a boomy desktop blaster.

the esi 05 are quite neutral and easy to handle when to make a transparent mix. means they reproduce the sound quite fair. and they are loud. using them in a living room environment would mean to add a subwoofer.

not comparable with dyn-audio or other pro stuff, of course.

for that its ok with me and i am still fine after a year ;-)

but there are many other choices...

OK, so I've narrowed it down to these 2 choices. I am thinking about AMS because they have a payment plan and I won't have to come up with all of the dough right away:

These are the ones that I really want:

A little more than I wanted to spend

Here is the combo that I am thinking about (2 separate items):

I know that choice A has a set of headphones too, and a stand. I have 6 mic stands already and don't want another one. The headphones are nice though.

Choice B has a much better mic, and I am thinking that may be more important.

What do you guys think????????

My wife would have a cow if she knew how much I'm spending on this little project

just in case you want to gather more information about your desired monitor:

enjoy!

That is some funny reading. He went through 4 pages before he saw the bad solder joints that are visible on the 1st shot of the board.

My friend with the studio has a set of Tannoys that he bought for somewhere around $1,000 in 1999. He only wants $300 for them. I just might go that route. Especially since his Soldano is in my shop for some mods right now. I smell a trade in the air....oh, wait....it may have been the dog.

+1 for the KRK Rokit 5's.

I got a pair in mint condition of Craigslist for $150 bux. A total steal. They sound great, powerful, and crisp. Vented in the front, good bass. powered, can accept RCA 1/4 inch and XLR.

I think the KRK Rokit6's are better overall and have better bass response, while the KRK Rockit 8's are flabbly.

ha, if the trade smells that "good" ...

go for the tannoy's - they are in any case better than this krk
i mean, i assume you want to have good and neutral sounding monitors.

are they active as well?
