I miss my chunk... out with the comp, in with OD?

Hey guys, I've been playing with an EH Blackfinger for awhile now and while it worked great with my stock Mesa tubes, now that I've retubed with no Mesa tubes, it sounds kinda funky and I can't seem to push the tone like I did on the other tubes. I've never used a OD bc the Comp added alot of chunk to my sound. I've played around with the pedal in all kinds of settings and setups (fx loop vs out front) and I can't seem to push these tubes. Am I better off just going with an OD pedal like a TS9 or an OD808 to push the tubes and get that chunk back?

thanks in advance

An OD might do the trick, but some OD pedals tend to take a little of the bass out of the signal IME - that's why most people use it for a lead boost... YMMV
